How to create a CV on your phone

December 4, 2020 in Advice & Tips

Seen a job you just have to apply for but you can’t because you’re using a phone? Think again! You can build a stylish, professional CV in a matter of moments from the comfort of your smartphone.

Let’s show you how!

How to Create a CV on My Phone

One: Use a Simple Word Processor

Whether it’s Microsoft Word or Pages, use a simple word processor app. Smartphones are great for many things, but they aren’t too good at managing complicated word processing programs. For the most part, this doesn’t matter for a CV since you need it to be uncomplicated and clean.

Two: Stick to Standard Formatting Settings

While word processor apps tend to offer a bunch of fonts and other options, stick to the basics. Using lots of sidebars and unusual settings will make your mobile resume look incredibly cluttered and offputting.

Three: Keep It Concise

Mobile screens aren’t made for displaying a load of information — and neither is your CV. Since you’re working on a smaller screen, it makes it easier to keep things concise. Remember to get straight to the point when writing your resume for maximum impact.

Four: Save It As a PDF

If you’re using Word to write your CV, your formatting will probably change quite dramatically if you leave it as a Word document and send it to employers. Because of this, we’d suggest you save it as a PDF. These files aren’t so easily messed with and will (hopefully) cure any formatting issues, regardless of the device the recipient uses.

If You Want to Get a Bit Fancy, Use a CV App

Sometimes, using a regular word processing app isn’t going to cut the mustard — especially if you’re applying for a creative position. In this case, you’ll want to make use of a free CV builder app that will help you to create something memorable.
