A Vacancy has become available at a leading private water and wastewater testing laboratory based in Durban for a Senior Microbiologist / Microbiologist with 3 – 5 years hands-on microbiology laboratory experience. The candidate should ideally have a Degree or Diploma in Microbiology / Biotechnology / Food Technology. Previous industry experience is advantageous. Responsibilities of the role are to include the following: Oversight of the Microbiology and Legionella laboratory operations Accountability for the reporting of accurate results Act in accordance with laboratory's management system Identification of deviations from the management system, or procedures Initiate actions to prevent / minimise such deviations Report to laboratory management on performance of management system and any need for improvement Ensure effectiveness of laboratory activities Maintenance and improvement of the Quality Management System Technical support to laboratory (micro.) staff Authorisation to operate equipment Duties Verification and calibration of laboratory equipment (pipettes, balance, pH meter) Testing routine and miscellaneous samples in laboratory Agar, Glassware, Apparatus preparation Media and reagent preparation Operation of laboratory equipment Supervise, oversee, and train the microbiology laboratory staff Analysis of samples for microbiological / bacteriological determinants Preparation of preliminary microbiological / bacteriological l reports Recording and reporting of results on LIMS and in records Act as a client liaison where appropriate and/or required. Act as backup for fellow microbiologist(s) Stocktaking Temperature control and monitoring Reporting of hazards and risks Maintain all Quality Control records Participation in Proficiency testing schemes Conducting internal audits and non-conformance investigations Investigation of non-conformances and root cause analysis Identification of deviations from the management system, or procedures Initiate actions to prevent / minimise such deviations Reporting of hazards and risks 3 - 5 years of hands-on experience in an ISO 17025:2017 accredited laboratory. Degree or Diploma in Microbiology / Biotechnology / Food Technology. Knowledge and application of ISO 17025 and Method Validation according to TR28 mandatory. Experience in relevant equipment verification and calibration. Good Understanding of GLP and QMS. Demonstrated adherence to SOP's, Safety, GLP in Laboratory and related environments. Competence with MS Excel, MS Word, MS Outlook, and LIMS systems. Industry experience and knowledge of the water, wastewater, and sewage industry preferred. Knowledge and hands-on experience testing for Legionella advantageous. Apply Now
