NORTH-WEST UNIVERSITY (POTCHEFSTROOM CAMPUS) FACULTY OF HEALTH SCIENCES SCHOOL OF HUMAN MOVEMENT SCIENCES VACANCY: CLINICAL ACCOMPANIST POSITION NUMBER: TB00800 PEROMNES: P9 EMPLOYMENT TYPE: 2 – YEAR FIXED-TERM APPOINTMENT WITHOUT BENEFITS PURPOSE OF THE POSITION The BHSc Biokinetics program requires third and fourth-year students to complete 1000 hours of clinical training during the four years of training. Eight hundred of these hours are performed in clinical settings with real clients/patients. The requirements are that the students work under the supervision of a registered Biokineticist for the required hours. Currently, a position is available for a preceptor to fulfil this role within the Biokinetics Program in the School of Human Movement Sciences. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Teaching and learning. Administration. Community engagement. Clinical supervision: Provide supervision during clinical work-integrated learning across the scope of the Biokinetics profession. Ensure ethical conduct from the students during supervision. Ensure safe and risk-appropriate procedures are followed during training. Evaluate the quality of practical and soft skills of the supervised students in alignment with the posed graduate attributes. Administration: Set up clinical rotation schedules for the work-integrated learning. Manage the clinical rotation hours according to the guidelines. Work effectively in communication and integration between the Biokinetics program and the clinical rotation sites. Manage assessments of students by clinical rotation sites and adherence of clinical rotation sites to training specifications. A bachelor of Health Sciences degree in Biokinetics or an honours degree (NQF level 7/8) in Biokinetics. Professional registration with the HPCSA in independent practice EXPERIENCE: A minimum of two (2) years' work integrated learning experience as an independent practitioner. Accreditation with Basic Life Support. ADDED ADVANTAGE Professional membership with BASA. A minimum of two (2) years' practical experience as an independent clinical accompanist. KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES: Expertise in setting up clinical rotation schedules. Expert knowledge of the scope of the profession of Biokinetics and the ethical requirements for professional conduct and practice. Good problem-solving skills in the key performance areas. General computer literacy (Windows MS Office, Excel, use of e-mail and internet) with additional knowledge of databases. High standard of interpersonal and communication skills (including appropriate language skills to function in the multilingual NWU environment) and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary environment. KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES: Excellent people and conflict resolution skills. Time management skills to work independently (on their own and without supervision). People-oriented approach evident in working in groups and with colleagues. Demonstrate initiative, leadership and organisation skills. REMUNERATION The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
