Accountant - Port Elizabeth

Overview: An established and growing fuel and retail company, seeks to employ an Accountant. The role is based in-office in Port Elizabeth. The purpose of the role is to apply accounting principles and procedures, analyze financial information, prepare accurate and timely financial reports and statements and ensure appropriate accounting control procedures are adhered to. The position reports to the Managing Director, and will also work with the relevant Accounting Firm as and when needed. Minimum Requirements: Matric (or equivalent) Accounting Diploma or equivalent BCom / Accounting Degree (advantageous) 3 years accounting-related experience 2 years commercial experience (highly advantageous) Working experience in the interpretation and use of GAAP Strong Pastel experience Fully computer literate Responsibilities: General Accounting: Ensure accurate monthly financial reporting and deadlines are met Maintain accurate sets of accounts up to trial balance level and accurate account/bank reconciliations Obtain, analyse and evaluate accounting documentation, previous reports, data, flowcharts, etc. Produce accurate and clean monthly balance sheet reconciliations Monitor & ensure that a high standard of financial hygiene is maintained in all accounting practices Ensure all data capturing is done accurately and on time and all financial deadlines are met Interact effectively with management and communicate any operational problems to management immediately to ensure that there is follow up and problems are resolved Ensure the implementation and maintenance of policies and procedures as communicated by management Ensure accurate and up-to-date processing of daily required reports and timely year-end rollover Ensure accurate completion and analysis of cash flow forecasts Analyze and advise on business operations including revenue and expenditure trends, financial commitments and future revenues Monitor wages and prepare actual versus required wage summaries and other payroll information Budgeting: Produce annual budget income statements Investigate and resolve variances between month-to-month actual figures and between actual and budgeted figures Ensure continuous management and support of budget and forecast activities Analyse management accounts and provide solutions for variances against budget or any abnormal trends Audits and Statutory Information: Coordinate the audit process and ensure financial audit preparation Ensure that stock take procedures are being adhered to (where applicable) Ensure accurate and timely completion of all statutory returns General: Carry out any other ad hoc duties as and when required by management Liaise with different personnel, as is required, to prevent delays and on-time delivery Ensure knowledge of companys Human Resources policies and procedures and that staff are aware and properly trained on these (where applicable) Ensure high quality standards of work are adhered to at all times Apply Now
