Accountant - Stellenbosch

Minimum qualifications and experience:

  • Tertiary qualification in Risk Management, Finance, or Accountancy (or related field).
  • Minimum of 2 years of demonstrated experience in a similar role.
  • Knowledge of accepted accounting practices and principles.
  • Exposure to derivative markets, risk management environments, and the grains industry.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Review trade position accuracy.
  • Review open contracts.
  • Compile daily PNL report.
  • Daily valuation of new deals.
  • Daily FX valuation.
  • Realized PNL valuation.
  • Ensure accurate recording and analysis of revenues and expenses.
  • Prepare supporting schedules according to monthly close schedule.
  • Prepare monthly account reconciliations per commodity.
  • Perform monthly intercompany reconciliations and recording of transactions.
  • Execute general ledger system operations and month-end close responsibilities.
  • Prepare commercial reports.
  • Assist with internal and external audits.
  • Perform balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Review and approve payments.
  • Validate and maintain data integrity.
  • Handle ad-hoc duties as needed.

Essential skills:

  • Intermediate to advanced MS Excel proficiency.
  • Understanding of derivative markets and/or risk management.
  • Excellent numerical reasoning and problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail and high accuracy.
  • Experience in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
  • Effective planning, organizing, and time management.

  • Completed SAFEX examination: Agri Market Dealers.
  • Exposure to the grains industry.
  • SAP experience.
