SGS South Africa is seeking to fulfil a role in the SGS Matrocast Civil Engineering Laboratories. The role includes but are not limited to assisting the Supervisor/ Laboratory Manager and other laboratory personnel with all tasks, whether it's on site or in the commercial laboratory. To clean all equipment on a regular basis. To complete all preparation of materials to be tested in the laboratory division, including soils, asphalt, seals, concrete, aggregate with bench calculation as and when required for testing. The Assistant Materials Tester will ensure that the laboratory is clean at all times and will carry out all work related instructions from the technicians/supervisors or authorized personnel. The ideal candidate for this position will be a person with strong and assertive leadership skills to command respect from those he/she deals with, whilst possessing enough energy and passion to maintain good staff relationships. A successful career in delivering performance against agreed strategic objectives and ultimately ensuring that all quality and testing methods are observed, and any deviation is reported without delay. Reporting the Site Laboratory Manager An Assistant Materials Tester is responsible for cleaning and maintaining the company equipment on a regularly basis and that all test equipment is cleaned after completion of any job. An Assistant Materials Tester is responsible for the neatness of apparatus and environment including cleaning up the site or workshop where the job was carried out and will make sure its free off all consumables used to perform the job (masking tape, tins). An Assistant Materials Tester is responsible to adhere to all quality and safety requirements of the SGS management system. An Assistant Materials Tester to orally report deviations, irregularities and non-conformances An Assistant Materials Tester is responsible to perform any other reasonable tasks as assigned by the authorized site supervisor/laboratory manager and regional manager. Conduct quality and safety inspections as required. Do daily "Safety Talks" at the commencement of the shift and submit paperwork to Senior Inspector. To handle all hand over activities to the next shift in a swift and efficient manner. Shall wear appropriate Personal Protective Clothing / Equipment and enforce the use, storage and maintenance of PPE to the operators at all times. Shall maintain good housekeeping and to keep workplace clean and tidy Adhere to all quality and safety requirements of the SGS management system. Perform any other reasonable tasks as assigned by direct line manager. Qualifications Matric / Grade 12 completed Sampling and preparation experience advantageous Must be physically willing and able to work with, pick up and move samples as and when required Additional Information Proficiency in English Basic literacy and penmanship Must be capable to understand, implement and maintain the quality system requirements after training. Must be able to understand, implement and maintain the Civil Engineering Test Methods after training (eg SANS, THN 1) Apply Now
