Blasting Specialist Vacancy at Kumba Iron Ore - South Africa

The role Blasting activities are monitored, results are analysed and recommendations are made to achieve the desired fragmentation. Responsible for the design of blast blocks using a suitable software application. This includes the design of the drilling pattern, relief holes etc. as well as simulating the timing of the blast in order to optimise fragmentation. Blast blocks must be inspected periodically to ensure conformance to set standards. Charged blast blocks are visited to provide technical support on timing, initiation point, blasting sequence and tying up of holes. Latest blasting technologies are sought, tested, analysed, evaluated and recommendations are made about the ability to implement on the Mine. Ensure alignment with Anglo American GTS (Group Technical Standards) that are applicable for drilling and blasting activities. Advice must be provided pro-actively to alleviate or avoid possible problems; advice must be provided to the relevant parties to ensure that Thabazimbi Mine complies with all blasting related legislation. Adhering to all relevant company health and safety standards and requirements, work ethics is of such a nature that it benefits the company and everyone working for it; assistance provided pro-actively or when asked for by supervisor or team members, continuously promotes good housekeeping. You will need Knowledge of mining processes and ore characteristics, analytical skills, research, project management, networking, problem solving skills, blasting techniques, holistic approach, communication skills, relationship building and the ability to function independently, be assertive, client orientated, organised and results driven.
