The Talent Experts

If you're a compliance and governance expert and you'd be eager to join a South African entity of a global company where you can make the role your own, we want to hear from you Is this you? Are you a highly skilled professional with a minimum LLB and at least 3 years of experience in a corporate environment? Do you have a track record in governance, risk management, and drafting commercial contracts? If you're an independent and proactive thinker who is eager to learn and add value, then keep on reading What you'll be doing (and why you'll enjoy it): As the Head of Compliance, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring legal, governance, and risk compliance within the organisation. Your role will be largely focused on compliance matters, especially ensuring that the business is compliant with various European legislation due to the nature of this global business. The business in SA is a small concern but there are many compliance rules and regulations from various European counterparts that you will need to keep on top of. Some of your responsibilities will be ensuring the Company, management and employees are in compliance with applicable Company policies and governance procedures. You'll also ensure the Company stays abreast of developments from a regulatory, compliance and legal perspective on a local and international level. There will be some drafting of contracts (but not a lot) and you will manage legal contracts, handle litigation matters, and maintain a compliance register. You'll be a key player in strategic direction, focusing on data privacy governance and compliance with regulations such as GDPR and POPIA. If you enjoy making strategic decisions, problem-solving, and fostering a data protection culture, this role offers a fulfilling opportunity. Additionally, you'll be responsible for Company secretarial duties, implementation of the internal audit and risk obligations and maintain legal documents, contracts and compliance screenings amongst other things. Where you'll be doing it: The role will at first be fully office based in town CBD. After you've had time to settle in, there is a hybrid set up where you'll work two days a week from the office. There are core working hours which are from 10am to 3pm but your hours are flexible as long as you're available in core hours. There are 200 employees in their Cape Town office. The company is part of a large international group and their culture is young, diverse and they embrace individualism. While you're part of a large international and can enjoy the benefits of that, you'll be part of a smaller part of that where you'll able to connect with all employees. The Company is proud of their commitment to excellence. Their team embodies a culture of collaboration and innovation. Join them at their modern and dynamic work environment where your skills will be valued. You'll be required to travel when and if needed, with the possibility to do a course as well as visit the offices in Europe on the odd occasion. What you'll need: You will be required to have a minimum LLB degree with 3 years of experience in a corporate environment. We're ideally looking for someone that's got experience working with various European legislation, understanding the different legal systems, especially in a big, listed company environment. Your experience in compliance, governance and risk is key. You need to be able to demonstrate a history and ability of working independently and proactively. You are the only Legal guru in the SA entity so you'll be required to lead and guide management and their employees. To also understand that you'll need to be hands on because of the nature of the role. We're looking for someone with strong organisational skills, attention to detail and eagerness to learn. Also, you'd need to be assertive and confident – able to hold your own in a debating diverse culture. Please note that you will be required to travel to Europe on the odd occasion, maybe once or twice a year but nothing is set in stone.
