The Impact You’ll Make in this Role: As a Customs Specialist for South Africa, you will work closely with the local broker and logistics execution team along with Regional and Global Trade Compliance Teams. Secure 100% compliance with the local customs regulations and laws as well as with internal 3M Trade Compliance Policies and Standards. Here, you will make an impact by: Function as an expert resource for customs operations in the areas of import and export transactions, customs regulations, Free Trade Agreements, bonded warehouse, AEO programme, internal Trade Compliance policies and procedures with a strategic focus to streamline efficiencies and ensure compliance. Working with regional Trade Compliance on all trade compliance matters for the region (Export Controls, Sanctions, Imports & Customs related questions, Trade & Regulatory Data (HTS, COO, ECCN etc.). Manage broker relationship, SOP implementation and ensure customs declaration accuracy, and import entry archiving is up to date. Conduct risk assessments, identify compliance issues, and oversee implementation of corrective measures. Permits & Licenses database maintenance – uploading newly received documents, and linking them to the products; Control of the usage of permits (products, quantities, and expiration dates); permits’ extension and or/closure. Manage internal and external audits. Monitor utilization of beneficial duties (Free Trade Agreements). Monitor broker compliance to the Broker SOP. Maintain monthly EMEA key metrics reporting. Identification of controlled products, and receive appropriate permits (Identification Statements, Licenses, etc.) for export and/or import as required. Support the company with AEO licensing programs. Support and manage the TDN/VDN submissions to SARS. Provide guidance to internal teams on customs regulations and requirements. Keep abreast with customs legislation changes by attending SARS webinars, conferences etc. Your Skills and Expertise To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M is looking for candidates who must have the following qualifications: Bachelors in related field (higher Supply chain/ Logistics education is a plus) Minimum 5 years of combined work experience preferably in Supply Chain, Logistics, Trade Compliance, or Customer facing roles. Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication and project management skills. Basic understanding of export controls. Strong interpersonal skills and willingness to learn. Attention to detail. Strong communication skill is a MUST. Change management and agility. Good spoken and written English SAP/GTS experience is a plus (but not mandatory). Knowledge of WCO tools will be an added advantage.
