Establishing Data Governance Framework: Data Governance Specialists
develop and implement a data governance framework that defines roles,
responsibilities, policies, and procedures for managing data across the
organization.
Defining Data Policies and Standards: They establish data policies,
standards, and guidelines to ensure consistency, quality, integrity, and
security of data throughout its lifecycle, from acquisition and storage to
usage and disposal.
Data Quality Management: Data Governance Specialists oversee data quality initiatives to monitor, measure, and improve the accuracy,
completeness, and consistency of data. This involves implementing data
quality tools, conducting data profiling, and resolving data quality issues.
Data Security and Privacy Compliance: They ensure that data governance
practices align with security and privacy regulations such as GDPR, HIPAA,
or CCPA. This includes implementing access controls, encryption,
anonymization, and other security measures to protect sensitive data.
Data Stewardship: Data Governance Specialists work with data stewards
across the organization to define data ownership, stewardship
responsibilities, and accountability for data quality and compliance.
Data Lifecycle Management: They establish policies and procedures for
managing the lifecycle of data, including data acquisition, storage, retention,
archiving, and disposal, to ensure that data is managed efficiently and in
compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
Data Risk Management: They identify and assess data-related risks such as

mitigation strategies and controls to minimize these risks.
Training and Awareness: Data Governance Specialists provide training and
awareness programs to educate employees about data governance policies,
