Job Number:BBD00024 Contract Type:Permanent A junior DB2 Database Administrator is required to join the Application Development team, providing day to day DB2 support to developers. The target database environment is DB2 version 9.7 on IBM AIX. Whilst in all the development environments, DB2 version 9.7 on Linux is used. The candidate will be expected to work on both AIX & Linux and thus should be familiar with UNIX type Operating Systems. The candidate should have a sound theoretical knowledge of Relational Database Concepts (including SQL) and the Software Development Life Cycle. Contribute to the continuous improvement of DB2 Standards & Procedures in the team. The candidate should be able to foster good relations with developers The candidate should have good working knowledge & experience in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel) Good working knowledge and experience in UNIX will be an advantage. Development experience in Java, C# or C++ will be an advantage DB2 9 Certification will be a definite advantage The role Create & Maintain Database Development Environments Assist developers with query writing, performance testing and optimization. Provide guidance to developers regarding best practices for Database Design & Development. Evaluate Database Deliverables ensuring that it’s Fit For Production. Ensure that the necessary backup strategy is implemented & maintained to protect the DB2 databases. Database is DB2 BUT is more of a ‘DEVELOPER’ DBA Must work with a development team to help them design and optimise the database access and structure. Optimising the keys and queries of the system and validating the database designs Do the DB scripts / archiving tasks. NB – We don’t need someone that can start and stop databases and back them up only.
