Dedicated CNC Programmer - Cape Town City Centre

The Machine Shop department has a vacancy for a dedicated CNC Programmer. The main objective of the Dedicated CNC Programmer/ is to fully optimize the functionality of our machinery and to ensure that every product meets the highest quality and efficiency standards. The successful candidate will be required to:

  • Write programs with Edgecam (Milling and Laths) on 3,4 and 5 axis machines
  • Program and setup Siemens CNC
  • Review and re-test current programs in order to eliminate any errors
  • Monitor all programs to ensure they meet specifications and safety policies
  • Analyze job orders, drawings specifications and design data to calculate dimensions, tool selections, machine speeds and feed rates
  • Write standard operating procedures or instructions to outline processes
  • Creating, optimizing, and troubleshooting machine programs, ensuring that each job runs seamlessly with minimal downtime and minimal waste
  • Thorough inspections, early deficiency identification, and implementing continuous process improvement throughout the production cycle
  • Ensure that every product delivered is of high quality and according to drawing tolerances
  • Assist the Manager with coaching the team in regards with technical support, planning of work and ordering of the necessary material and tools
  • Monitor quality, accuracy and efficiency of teams work in terms of finished parts, tools or sub-assemblies and report any issues or possible improvements required to Manager
  • Completing urgent/critical jobs as operational requirements demand
  • Direct, guide and mentor staff as required
  • Quality control on drawings submitted
  • Any other tasks or adhoc duties, as agreed with the Manager, suited to this level of leadership

Qualifying Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years’ Programming and QC experience in a similar environment
  • Minimum 10 years post trade test working experience in a manufacturing/engineering/ production environment
  • Relevant tertiary qualification (N3 or higher)
  • Trade Test Certificate
  • Working knowledge of OHSA
  • Excellent computer skills (MS Office)
  • Good written, verbal and listening skills with the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of personnel
  • Valid Driver’s license and own reliable transport
  • Be fully competent and able to program with Edgecam (Milling and Laths)
  • Be fully competent and able to program with G-Codes
  • Have expertise on material characteristics

Standard hours

07h30–17h00: Monday – Thursday

07h30–16h00: Friday
