DEPARTMENT OF STUDENT AFFAIRS DEPUTY DIRECTOR: STUDENT AFFAIRS PEROMNES POST LEVEL 4 The successful candidates’ responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: Strategic leadership: Develop annual strategic plans in collaboration with the Director and unit heads; Oversee, manage, and provide strategic leadership to unit heads and staff; Manage the monitoring, implementation and evaluation of policies and procedures related to holistic student development and access; Oversee access and success for students with disabilities; Oversee student counselling; Oversee the student health portfolio; Oversee student governance, leadership elections, and development; Oversee the development of an interactive student life calendar; Oversee the development, implementation and evaluation of programs within the department; Operational management: Overall management of operational functions for the department; Development and implementation of programmes; Project management; Human Resources and Financial management: Manage Human Resources and finances within the portfolio in accordance with University policies and guidelines, and ensure that each unit head adheres to these standards. Closing date: 09 APRIL 2024 No application will be considered after the closing date, or if it does not comply with at least the minimum requirements MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: PhD Degree in Higher Education studies, or related field; A total of 8 years’ experience, with 3 years in management, in: Higher Education, as an academic, or professional service staff member that includes a proven record of leadership in a management position and working with students and faculties; Working with students in the area of student governance, leadership or support; Human resources and financial management. REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES): Knowledge of: Student governance structures; Financial processes; Project management and events; Development and conceptualization of policies and procedures.; Technical competencies: Exceptional writing skills; Computer literate; Applicable computer software packages; MS Suite; Behavioural competencies: Good interpersonal skills; Analytical skills; Research skills; Good organizational skills; Ability to lead and manage teams; Good and accurate communication skills (written and spoken); Sensitivity to a diverse environment; Planning, organizing, and prioritizing skills; Professionalism; Ability to handle information with high confidentiality; Ability to manage staff challenges and conflict resolution; Ability to work under pressure and independently; Good interpersonal skills, facilitation and negotiating skills; Ability to lead and manage a team; Ability to work under pressure. ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES: A total of 3 years’ experience in: The effective use of virtual platforms to support student governance and leadership. The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent’s level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
