We are recruiting a Diesel Mechanic to service and maintain a fleet of Cross-Border / Abnormal Load vehicles that are constantly on the road. In this position, you will be responsible for maintaining, repairing and servicing all machinery and vehicles in a cost-effective manner. Your duties will include monitoring inventory, inspecting vehicles, and assembling the required machinery to keep the fleet on the road. Assist with general duties assigned by the General Manager. Perform all required maintenance tasks on the fleet, associated equipment, and machinery. Perform all required brake down repairs on the fleet, associated equipment, and machinery. Develop, modify, construct, and install all related equipment required for the maintenance and repair of the fleet. Perform diagnosis, troubleshooting, fault finding, and repair work as required. Conduct regular maintenance on machinery, equipment, and the fleet of vehicles. Meet with suppliers to negotiate lead times and better pricing structures. Assemble mechanical components according to specifications. Examine machines and oversee diagnostic tests to determine functionality problems. Design a plan of action for all maintenance tasks and upgrades. Maintain work logs, repairs, and maintenance records. Monitor parts & tool inventory and order new parts when necessary. Inspect vehicle engine and mechanical/electrical components to diagnose issues accurately. Conduct routine maintenance work (replacing fluids, lubricating parts, etc.) aimed at maintaining the vehicles' functionality and longevity. Schedule future maintenance sessions. Repair or replace broken or dysfunctional parts and fix issues (e.g. leaks). Provide accurate estimates (cost, time, effort) for a repair or maintenance jobs. Perform welding and minor body work repairs. Rotate and balance tyres. Must have operational experience with abnormal cross border transport, with knowledge of the different country regulations. •Experience with vehicle tracking systems will be an advantage. At least 3 - 5 years working experience in cross-border logistics and abnormal loads within the transportation industry. Grade 12 certificate (preferably Technical) Qualified Diesel Mechanic (Red Seal) 3 – 5 years' experience. Valid Driver's License. Knowledge of tools and lubrication processes. Willing to travel for work purposes. To succeed in this role, you should be physically and mentally fit and have a solid knowledge of basic mechanic's tools, service, and diagnostic equipment. Our ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail, with excellent communication skills. Must be self-motivated, willing to work late when needed (occasional Saturdays). Should be predisposed to problem solving and ensuring that deliverables are met. Strong analytical skills with an understanding of the cross-border transport industry.
