Staff work a hybrid schedule with 2 days/week in the office Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), and working in close collaboration with the Africa Director, the Africa Director of Finance and Operations is responsible for oversight of all finance, accounting, reporting and operations for IFAW’s operations in Africa. This includes offices and/or entities located in Kenya, Malawi, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe. The Africa Director of Finance and Operations is a key member of the regional leadership team, responsible for strategic and operational oversight of all Africa-based accounting, financial planning and operational integrity, and financial planning. This is a position working at both the strategic and detailed level within the region and will oversee, support and/or directly perform when necessary the accounting, payroll, financial reporting, budgeting, tax compliance, insurance, human resources, and field/office operations. Working closely with the Global Controller and Treasurer, this position ensures that there are effective financial and accounting system controls and consistent standards in place in the countries where programs are operating. The accountability of this position is to drive excellence in business operations, finance, systems and processes. Role and Responsibilities Finance, Accounting and Treasury Leadership Oversee, directly support and/or perform when necessary all regional accounts, ledgers, and reporting ensuring compliance with appropriate standards and regulatory requirements for respective IFAW legal entities and representative offices; Oversee, directly support and/or perform when necessary the annual budgeting and planning process for regional programs and operations in close collaboration with respective country office staff and program/department directors; Provide financial information to meet the needs of internal and external stakeholders including producing customized financial reports, costing templates, trend analysis on an as needed, monthly, quarterly and annual basis; Continuously assess and evaluate regional financial processes including timely, secure, efficient and effective payment solutions for field-based activities; Develop and maintain internal control and safeguards, including policies and procedures; In partnership with the Treasurer, manage regional cash flow forecasting by working in partnership with the regional teams; Operations Leadership Develop and implement appropriate poiicies, procedures and training to support program implementation and field operations; Proactively identify and/or assess potential impacts of new or emerging matters pertaining to financial accounting and reporting, tax, legal, corporate and regulatory compliance, and industry best practices for each of the regional entities; Maintain working knowledge of jurisdictional employment standards, regulations and trends; Manage regional recruitment; Oversee procurement process, providing support for contracts and general purchasing; Qualifications and Education Requirements Experienced leader (seven to ten years) serving in management positions of accounting, finance and administration, with experience gathering, evaluating, presenting and reporting financial information to management teams and external stakeholders. Experience in a complex multi-currency nonprofit with multiple programs required; Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and commitment to IFAW’s mission; a proactive, hands-on strategic thinker who will own, in partnership with the CFO, the responsibility for finance and operations; Minimum of a BA; CPA or MBA preferred; Solid experience coordinating and managing reporting, budget and financial planning development and analysis, accounts payable, general ledger, payroll and business operations; Technology savvy with Unit4 ERP experience desirable; Demonstrate ability to recruit, mentor, train and retain a diverse team; the foresight and ability to delegate accordingly; Strong interpersonal and communication skills; experience in effectively communicating key data, including presentations to senior management or other outside partners.
