Excavator operator - South Africa

This role is responsible for the safe & efficient operation of an Excavator in a mining production environment and to operator other equipment such as but not limited to, Dozer, Grader, Water Cart and Dump Truck as required to conduct production mining operations at Norton Gold Fields Limited Paddington Operations. Key Duties / Tasks : Conduct pre starts on equipment prior to operation. Initiate and participate in equipment handovers with Open Pit Shift Supervisor and cross shift operator. Follow and interpret mine plan instructions to achieve good quality production results in a timely manner. Interpret, understand and apply survey instructions and dig plans. Achieve and exceed production targets. Accurately excavate ore and waste to the grade control geologist’s and surveyor’s markings and direct the trucks to deliver the material to the correct stockpile areas. Effective operation of the excavator to achieve maximum productivity. Plan and manage the excavation to survey design. Direct truck movement and manage the numbers of trucks needed for optimal productivity. Maintain a level and smooth working floor. Be able to complete competently machine challenge evaluation for all machine. Be able to cut/clean batters to design in a safe manner without damage or over stressing machine Report significant changes in the ground conditions and use of consumables Operate equipment to “Best Practice” standards to minimise damage on equipment. Conclude shift with post shift checks; cleaning and refuelling equipment where appropriate. Complete daily take 5 and JSA risk assessment as required when performing tasks Ability to exercise good judgment and be innovative in selecting, using and improving the correct procedure, process or technique to solve problems, execute tasks and safely operate required machinery. Give clear precise directions when working with in other machinery Provide assistance to other mining operators as and when required. Coach new and/or inexperienced operators. Share knowledge and/or experiences with crew and/or management. Maintain a high level of housekeeping. Follow tagging procedures as per site procedures To perform to a standard that is inline or better than in the training competency standards on site. Rapid response to operator requests to clear up spillage on haul roads and maintain clear loading faces. Give clear tipping directions for trucks at dumping locations. Liaise with team members to effect immediate clean-up of spills, creation of a smooth loading area and road maintenance. Ensure minimal disruptions to the loading and haulage cycle. Develop systems in conjunction with other team members to achieve minimal machine hour usage and maximum effectiveness. Any other duties as directed. Qualifications : Current, unrestricted Western Australian C Class Driver’s Licence. Satisfactory National Police Clearance. Senior First Aid Certificate (desirable). Cert II or III in Surface Extraction (desirable). Skills and Experience: WORK KNOWLEDGE: Competent (at least 12 months solid operational experience in the operation of the following machinery (or similar/larger sized machines): -CAT 777 or 789 Trucks -CAT 773 Water Carts -CAT 14 and 16 Series Graders -CAT D10 Dozers -Hitachi EX 1200/3600 Excavator (Production Mining Operations) General mechanical knowledge of Open Pit mining equipment including isolation and“making safe”. Basic knowledge of Mine Regulations, Act and HSE Regulations. Minimum 6 years working at an Open Pit Operation with Gold Mining experience desirable. Demonstrated commitment to ensuring a safe working environment. Mechanical aptitude desirable. Ability to accurately complete paperwork (run sheets, timesheets, etc.) relevant to the role. COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Mature team player with good communication skills. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively using the 2 way radio. Demonstrated interpersonal skills. Able to speak, read and write legible English at an Australian Secondary School standard. COMPUTER SKILLS: Basic Computer skills (Email, Word, etc.). Previous experience using MPX (desirable).
