Executive Manager: Office of the CEO - Pretoria

ROLE OVERVIEW

Reporting directly to the CEO, the successful candidate will be responsible for the strategic and operational management of the Office of the CEO. The incumbent will further support the CEO in leading and directing key operational areas within the company in order to ensure that the strategic objectives of the company in these areas are met within budget, quality and time requirements.

The successful candidate shall lead an established team in providing excellent strategic leadership, thus enabling the organisation to remain a world leader in local government management and innovation.

  • Strong leadership skills with specific reference to the display of thought leadership in complex applications
  • The ability to manage ambiguity and embrace change and fluidity
  • Project Management Skills

  • Planning (business, financial, action applied strategy execution)
  • Professional report writing skills
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
  • A relevant post-graduate qualification
  • A Masters will be an advantage
  • 5-10 years experience operating at an Executive level within a medium to large sized organisation
  • Previous experience in developing and implementing strategy is essential
KEY PORTFOLIO AND PERFORMANCE FOCUS AREAS

Managing the office of the CEO for optimum efficiency and effectiveness:

  • Monitor progress, quality, standards, exposure and achievements of targets, set programmes, actions and risks for the OCEO
  • Ensure the planning, monitoring and control of the operational budget of the OCEO, so that both the financial and strategic objectives of the company are met
  • Implementing checks and balances in managing the budget and providing variance & trend reports on budget
  • Take responsibility for the administration of the Office of the CEO and ensure that tasks are executed
  • Provide feedback to the CEO on matters
  • Facilitate requests for the CEO and ensure appropriate arrangements are made
  • Manage the activities of the Manager in the OCEO
  • Coordinate the entire operations of OCEO with regard to all issues of programming, administration, compliance and deadlines
  • Attend to the internal coordination of the work within the Office of the CEO
  • Ensure proper management, operational efficiency and corporate reporting requirements are fully met

Providing strategic support to the CEO:

  • Providing the company CEO with the necessary support to fulfil his leadership, governance and oversight responsibilities
  • Attend meetings with the CEO in order to be able to understand the issues and be able to respond to requests
  • Scrutinize complex submissions/reports and make abbreviated summary notes and/or recommendations for the CEO with regard to these documents
  • Direct all operational actions of a strategic nature as delegated by the CEO
  • Write reports arising from meetings and complete all issues on behalf of the CEO
  • Predict the response from the CEO and formulate letters, correspondence, reports, , on behalf of the CEO
  • Advise the CEO on issues of material significance
  • Develop presentations / documents / reports in response to requests for information
  • Strategic advice to the CEO and provide analytical support to assist him to assess the strategic options for the company
  • Provide capability and capacity to facilitate the implementation and monitoring of companys strategic and annual business plans
  • Provide support to the CEO in the management of stakeholders and all strategic programmes of the company

Manage projects within the ambit of the Office of the CEO:

  • Define the scope of projects
  • Draw up project plans outlining work to be done, timeframes and cost
  • Manage the project to completion
  • Provide project progress reports to the CEO, EMT, ManCom and NEC

Operational Excellence:

  • Provide sound leadership and direction, as a liaison on behalf of the CEO, to subordinates and staff so that they are able to achieve their objectives
  • Ensure the provision of an effective organisational governance and reporting function within the company
  • Ensure that world-class practice is entrenched in all activities, internal and external
  • Promote a positive culture of performance excellence in the OCEO
  • Ensure that the CEO is fully informed of all issues pertaining to operations and provided with advice and solutions relating to this area
  • Develop a framework that will ensure proper oversight of company operating portfolios
  • Enhance the optimal function of corporate governance structures and promote best practice in the business processes to support the achievement of the Organisations objectives
  • Ensure compliance with governance policy, regulatory guidelines, directives and applicable legislation to the company

Reporting:

  • Report, on a regular basis, to the CEO so that s/he is fully aware of the status of community development issues and can take informed decisions as and when required
