Fleet Manager - Spartan - South Africa

Job Description: As a Fleet Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the operations, maintenance, and efficiency of a company's fleet of vehicles. Your primary focus will be on optimizing vehicle utilization, ensuring compliance with regulations, and implementing strategies to improve safety and cost-effectiveness. You will work closely with drivers, mechanics, suppliers, and other stakeholders to manage the fleet effectively and achieve organizational objectives. Responsibilities: Develop and implement policies, procedures, and strategies to optimize the utilization and performance of the fleet. Coordinate the scheduling and dispatching of vehicles to meet operational requirements and customer demands. Monitor vehicle maintenance schedules, inspections, and repairs to ensure compliance with safety standards and regulatory requirements. Manage equipment necessary for vehicle maintenance and repairs. Analyze fleet data, including fuel consumption, mileage, and maintenance records, to identify trends, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement. Collaborate with procurement teams to negotiate contracts with suppliers, vendors, and service providers for vehicle purchases, leasing, fuel, and maintenance services. Develop and implement driver training programs on safe driving practices, vehicle operation, and compliance with company policies and regulations. Conduct regular audits and inspections of vehicles, facilities, and equipment to ensure adherence to safety and compliance standards. Monitor and manage fleet operating expenses, including fuel costs, maintenance expenses, and insurance premiums, to optimize budget allocation and control costs. Stay updated on industry trends, regulatory changes, and advancements in vehicle technology to inform decision-making and strategic planning. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field. 8 years experience in fleet management, logistics, or transportation operations, with a track record of successfully managing a diverse fleet of vehicles. 5 years in managerial level Strong knowledge of vehicle maintenance practices, regulatory requirements, and safety standards applicable to fleet operations. Familiarity with fleet management software systems, telematics, and GPS tracking technologies for monitoring and managing vehicle fleets. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze data, identify trends, and develop effective solutions. Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact professionally with drivers, mechanics, suppliers, and other stakeholders. Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and supervise a team of drivers, mechanics, and administrative staff. Attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to multitask and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment. Proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and fleet management software. Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work independently with minimal supervision, while also collaborating effectively within a team environment.
