Frozen Food Production Manager Market Related - South Africa

The Production Manager is responsible for overseeing the overall operations of a GFSI (Global Food Safety Initiative) accredited frozen pizza manufacturing facility. The successful incumbents' goal will be to ensure that the Production Facility runs smoothly and complies with all health and food safety regulations. This role involves managing various departments, including procurement, staffing, HR, manufacturing, hygiene, food safety management system, administration, communication with the sales team, dispatch, costings distribution, and reporting. The Factory Manager plays a crucial role in ensuring compliance with GFSI standards, maintaining high-quality production, and achieving operational efficiency. Knowledge in and ability to service and maintain production equipment would be advantageous. PROCUREMENT & PRODUCTION: Manage the procurement process for raw materials, packaging, and other supplies Collaborate with and oversee the procurement team to maintain adequate inventory levels Negotiate with suppliers and manage budgets and Food Costs Supervise production and all processes involved in food preparation, production and packaging Management of Product Specifications and maintenance of all Work Instructions and Recipes Manage and participate in weekly stock counts Maintaining production capacity to meet sales and demand, work closely with General Manager to forecast weekly production and the planning of deliveries to guarantee customer satisfaction Conduct regular Time and Motion studies and identify opportunities for improvements, propose and continually improve on efficiencies for optimal production levels Present weekly and monthly cost reports Oversee and manage data capturing onto an ERP/Stock Management system Research and Development – testing and sampling for product innovation and product specification changes STAFFING & HR: Manage kitchen and all production staff, and coordinate smooth operations throughout Schedule staff shifts and propose any adjustments and HR requirements for recruitment and training Recruit and train production staff on preparing, weighing, portioning and packaging Manage, develop, coach, control and motivate the production staff to develop their skill to ensure that a high professional standard is achieved and daily production targets are achieved Populating and sharing of relevant time and attendance for submission to HR for payroll Overseeing and assisting the Administration Assistant with ensuring all financial documentation is accurate and submitted to the Accounts Department weekly. QUALITY ASSURANCE & MAINTENANCE OF FOOD SAFETY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM: Comply by and manage all Food Safety and Occupational Safety aspects of the Facility Active participation and management of our Food Safety System in collaboration with the Quality Control Manager Maintaining the relevant checks and balances for portioning and recipes for a consistent product Management of suppliers and quality of Raw Ingredients Oversee and conduct frequent Internal Audits Prepare for, attend and participate in yearly Food Safety Audits Oversee and ensure safe keeping and accurately updating of all relevant Food Safety documentation Attend and participate in regular Food Safety Meetings Maintain and manage Product Specifications documented in our Food Safety Management System PRODUCTION EQUIPMENT & FACILITY MAINTENANCE Maintaining of all production equipment Reporting any breakdowns and scheduling regular maintenance Populating and delegating of Maintenance Job Cards DISPATCH & DISTRIBUTION Management of refrigerated/frozen fleet with relevant scheduled maintenance Overseeing and management of Dispatch, planning of economical and efficient delivery routes Communication and collaboration with the Sales Team to understand demand and effectively communicate limitations or challenges Bachelor's Degree in Food Science, Engineering or related field Proven work experience for a minimum of 4 years as a Food Production/Facility Manager, preferably in the frozen foods industry Knowledge of HACCP and GFSI standards with relevant Food Safety Certification Previous work experience with SAP or other ERP system Strong communication skills both written and verbal Self-motivated, proactive and dynamic Ability to gather, interpret and relay analytical information Ability to prioritise and organise duties and requirements Hands-on experience with planning recipes and ordering raw materials and equipment Excellent organizational and administration skills Conflict management abilities Ability to manage a team in a fast-paced work environment Motivation and leadership of staff and colleagues Ability to adapt to changing conditions and roles within the organisation Ability to work with, and as part of the operational team, managing staff in accordance to the “basic conditions of employment act” The factory is a 7 day operation and the Facility Manager will be required to work on any day that the factory is operational. Management reserves the right to change off days to suit the business and sales demand should it be required.
