Reference: FRD000231-KB-1 Client based in Johannesburg seeks the services of General Manager South Africa. OVERALL PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION: This position involves being responsible for the efficient management of the Company in South Africa site. Regular interface and management of all departments in the Johannesburg site, on a prioritized basis, to ensure they are achieving set targets and aligning to the overall business strategy for the region. Decision making in all aspects of General Management within the Sub-Saharan Africa market, and it interfaces with customers, marketing, operations, corporate and technical management regarding sales strategies and tactics, marketing programs, business plans and technical service requests and including HR diversions. To meet or exceed annual business targets in SA. The target attainment will be defined and agreed with the company each year based upon company's EBITDA, net financial position and specific yearly projects. Develop, plan and implement the commercial strategy and business plan for the specified geographic region and schedule operational effectiveness for all departments to ensure delivery in set global targets. Cultivate customer base and new customers including the generation of sales forecasts and sales & marketing strategies in coordination with budget targets & marketing & business directives. Identify profitable growth drivers (i.e. product, customer, and channels) to ensure the business has a profitable growth trajectory. To develop, maintain and grow the necessary relationships with existing and potential new customers consistent with achieving these objectives. Regular interface with regional and global Marketing and Technical Managers on a prioritized basis to address strategic and tactical issues. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES: Maintain and expand sales and Weighted Average Selling Price (WASP) to new and existing customers. Focus on major customers to ensure no loss of sales & prompt & efficient follow up from regular reviews. Secure existing business by identifying the need for agreements & contracts where possible and appropriate. Gather, collate/analyze and provide market intelligence to the relevant marketing and business personnel. Develop business relationships network within customer organizations with multiple departmental personnel and functions. Position and promote new product lines as directed by Marketing & referenced in the product portfolio charts for the specified region together with the site's sales team. Champion & focus the South Africa team on optimising functional/‘indirect' interfaces especially with the Regional heads in Sales, Marketing, & Technical functions in Asia Pacific. All site's departments are to report into this role, overseeing of day-to-day operations. Maintain budget and optimize expenses. Ensure employees work productively and develop professionally. Ensure Health and safely compliance is adhered to across the site. Provide solutions to issues (e.g profit decline, employee conflicts, loss of business to competitors) QUALIFICATIONS: This position involves decision making in all aspects of General Management within the region and it interfaces with customers, marketing, operations, corporate and technical management with regard to sales strategies and tactics, marketing programs, business plans and technical service requests. A Degree or higher Business and/or Science qualification along with 10 - 15 years sales and/or product management experience in the coatings market would be required. Technical experience in the coatings & composites sectors would also be a significant advantage. MBA preferred. BSC/BA Required. Strong analytic and problem-solving skills, which enables the person to drive focused analysis/assessment on different opportunities based on financial and operation data Demonstrable strong sales & business development track record & high-level negotiation skills. Ability to communicate & influence at all levels both internally & externally. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Skills and experience to understand and interpret various financial reports. This person must be a change-driver, be hands-on and have an entrepreneurial spirit when approaching business challenges.
