Glass Production Manager (Tanzania) - East London

Reference: PTA001089-CD-1An international manufacturer and distributor of building/float glass products is seeking an experienced Production Manager to drive the successful setup and operations of a new float glass manufacturing line in Tanzania, ensuring efficient production, adherence to quality and safety standards, and ongoing improvement and innovation. Minimum requirements for the role: A relevant tertiary qualification will be highly advantageous MUST have experience in the production of building/ float glass products A strong technical background in glass manufacturing processes, including knowledge of float glass production techniques, furnace operations, glass forming processes, and quality control methods are imperative for this role A solid understanding of financial management principles, including budgeting, cost control, and financial analysis will be required Must have a good understanding of safety protocols and regulatory requirements within the float glass manufacturing industry Must be able to build positive relationships with the local community to ensure the plant's reputation and long-term success within Tanzania Good communication skills, specifically in English, with the ability to interface with internal and external stakeholders of all levels, will be required Experience in managing complex projects with multiple stakeholders and tight deadlines is essential Must have a valid drivers’ license The successful candidate will be responsible for: Coordinating with various departments and stakeholders involved in the setup process, such as engineering, procurement, construction, and regulatory authorities. Creating timelines, setting goals, and ensuring smooth communication and collaboration among team members. Overseeing the design and optimization of the production process for manufacturing float glass, including the layout of the plant, selecting appropriate equipment and machinery, and developing standard operating procedures to ensure efficient and safe production. Establishing quality control measures and standards for the production process, including monitoring production parameters, conducting regular inspections, and implementing corrective actions as needed to maintain product quality. Ensuring that the plant operates in compliance with all relevant safety regulations and standards by conducting safety training for employees, implementing safety protocols, and conducting regular safety audits. Managing resources effectively by overseeing the allocation of resources such as raw materials, manpower, and energy to ensure optimal utilization and cost-effectiveness. Responsible for troubleshooting problems as they arise, identifying root causes, and implementing solutions to keep the production process running smoothly. Driving continuous improvement initiatives within the plant and identifying opportunities for optimization, implementing process enhancements, and striving for excellence in all aspects of plant operations. Building a skilled, motivated, and cohesive workforce capable of driving the success of the float glass plant in Tanzania. Working closely with HR to develop comprehensive job descriptions outlining qualifications, experience, and key responsibilities for each position. Providing training on operating procedures, equipment use, safety protocols, and quality standards to ensure that employees have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their jobs effectively. Establishing clear performance expectations and implementing performance management systems to ensure accountability and continuous improvement.
