Guest House Manager at Ocean Days (Pty) Ltd - KwaZulu-Natal, Uvongo - Uvongo

We are looking for a responsible live-in guesthouse manager for our start-up luxury guesthouse (6 rooms) situated on the beachfront in Manaba Beach, Uvongo, KwaZulu-Natal. The successful candidate will be responsible for the daily management of the guesthouse, its marketing and sales, on-site events and be the responsible individual for the on-site bar. The candidate should have experience in managing smaller full-service boutique guesthouses and lodges. The guesthouse offers breakfast, and pre-booked lunch and dinner services. This requires the successful candidate to have a good understanding of food and beverage operations and how they integrate with the rest of the guesthouse in order to maintain the anticipated high standards required for this business. The candidate should have a strong understanding of hospitality operations and trends in the guesthouse market. The suitable candidate will be taking full responsibility for the property's day to day operations, budgeting and profitability by effectively planning, leading, organising and controlling all aspects of strategy, marketing, budgets, finances, standards and maintenance. The candidate will work very closely with and report to the guesthouse owners. Key Performance Areas: Effectively manage the property, staff, and everyday guesthouse operations. Achieve optimal guest and stakeholder satisfaction. Ensure compliance with relevant legislation. Maximise financial performance and working environment in accordance with the standard operating procedures, policies, and quality standards of the guesthouse. Responsibilities: Day to day management, running, planning and organising of the guesthouse, the property, events facilities, functions, including bookings and booking platforms when required. Ensure the property and guesthouse is maintained in a pristine condition and ensure cleanliness throughout the guesthouse Promoting and marketing the business. Ordering, purchasing, and controlling of stock. Coordinate with suppliers and ensure timely deliveries. Recruitment, training and managing staff. Develop and maintain staff schedules to meet business needs. Stepping in to assist housekeeping staff with their duties when needed. Scheduling and management of housekeeping staff. Setting out the standards of cleaning and conducting inspections of cleaning services. Maintaining room inventory lists and inspections of room inventory before and after occupancy. Welcoming guests. Dealing with guests' complaints and comments. Providing of information on tourist attractions in the vicinity and booking activities. Addressing problems and troubleshooting. Ensuring events run smoothly. Ensuring compliance with health and safety and other statutory regulations. Preparing and serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. Preparing and serving meals for events. Planning of meals: work with the guesthouse owners to develop and compile of menus, estimating food quantities and costs, purchasing of food supplies, preparation of food and supervision of kitchen helpers. Doing and arranging to do maintenance on the estate. Night duty and sleeping over in the manager room in the house. Reporting on your duties and the daily operations at the guesthouse to the guesthouse owners as agreed. Any other reasonable instructions that may be given to you by the guesthouse owners from time to time. Requirements: Minimum 2 - 5 years relevant hospitality experience as a guesthouse manager. Grade 12 (non-negotiable). Diploma/Degree in Hotel Management or related field is desirable. Valid driver's licence and own transport. Must live on-site. Fluent in English, spoken and written. Entrepreneurial and a self-starter that thrives on achieving exceptional results. Working knowledge of human resource policies and practices. Working knowledge of legislation applicable to the hospitality industry. Understanding of marketing, sales and channel principles and processes. Working knowledge of financial and administrative principles. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Strong leadership and team management abilities. Customer-focused with a commitment to providing outstanding service, including working flexible hours, as and when required, to ensure customer satisfaction is maintained at the highest levels.
