Reference: NEL011221-AK-1We are seeking a highly experienced and motivated Hatchery Manager to join our clients team in the Free State. As the Hatchery Manager, you will be responsible for the efficient and effective day-to-day operations of the hatchery, ensuring we consistently produce high-quality day-old chicks. You will play a vital role in maximizing chick production, optimizing hatchery equipment performance, and maintaining biosecurity protocols Responsibilities: Oversee all aspects of hatchery operations, including egg receipt, setting, incubation, hatching, chick processing, and chick dispatch. Implement and maintain biosecurity protocols to prevent the introduction and spread of disease. Manage hatchery staff, ensuring they are adequately trained and following procedures. Monitor and maintain hatchery equipment, identifying and reporting any maintenance needs. Conduct regular data analysis to evaluate chick production efficiency and identify areas for improvement. Maintain accurate records and reports related to hatchery operations. Implement and adhere to all company safety policies and procedures. Collaborate with other departments to ensure smooth operations across the organization. Qualifications: Grade 12 certificate. A tertiary qualification in Poultry Science, Animal Science, or a related field is advantageous. No less than 5 years’ experience working in a Hatchery Management role. Strong understanding of all aspects of hatchery operations, including incubation, chick development, and troubleshooting. In-depth knowledge of poultry physiology and embryology. Experience with hatchery equipment maintenance and calibration (Chick Master, Petersime, PasReform, Eggsactly preferred). Proficient in MS Office Suite. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills. A meticulous and detail-oriented approach to work. A commitment to maintaining high standards of hygiene and biosecurity.
