Reference: PTA001081-EV-2An established manufacturer of specialised chemicals is seeking an experienced Head of Production to lead the manufacturing operations, by maintaining relations with partner facilities, setting-up and maintaining manufacturing structures and resources, driving continuous improvement projects and ensuring that the day-to-day requirements regarding demand, supply, inventory, and distribution are met. Minimum requirements for the role: Must have Bachelor degree or equivalent in Engineering (Chemical/Mechanical) or any related field with core competence in industrial processes Minimum 10 years’ manufacturing and management experience in a similar industry is essential Must have a chemical background with experience in formulations and manufacturing Knowledge of legislations around controlling and handling hazardous materials will be required Must be able to understand and translate financial information, including development of business case proposals where appropriate for investment in current and new manufacturing operations A good understanding of Lean methodologies is essential Must have process knowledge and experience in factory outlay and configuration to ensure an efficient and high-quality production environment Skills in managing industrial relations in a unionized environment are important The successful candidate will be responsible for: Overseeing production planning and scheduling. Establishing, monitoring, and reviewing work standards for the manufacturing of finished products. Monitoring and reviewing manufacturing operations to ensure delivery of quality products to defined standards, specifications, and cost. Reconciling production variance of material usage. Ensuring all assets on manufacturing sites are maintained in an adequate state of repair to ensure a reliable and predictable production process. Analysing productivity levels, setting productivity targets, and developing improvement measures in consultation with stakeholders. Managing resource budgets within allocated areas. Ensuring facilities and equipment are maintained up to company standards and that the needed Capex investment is planned and approved as required. Introducing new products on pilot scale. Ensuring that non-conforming products are identified, controlled, and rectified as high priority and stakeholders are informed accordingly. Ensuring effective manufacturing management of the change process to meet business requirements. Identifying capex projects with cost and timelines. Ensuring delivery of COGS projects through the implementation of formulation and packaging changes. Ensuring systems are in place to effectively manage shelf life and traceability of materials stored at manufacturing sites. Ensuring materials at site and tollers are correctively packaged, labelled, and stored in appropriate location and condition and according to permit conditions. Together with HR, liaising with union reps and shop stewards in dealing with disputes. Recruiting, managing, and developing talent and driving performance and talent management activities. Monitoring and measuring production site KPI to drive operational excellence - implementing incentive schemes as appropriate. Controlling manufacturing cost according to annual manufacturing budget and maximizing production throughput. Ensuring site ESG targets are met and the site accreditations are in place or being obtained as per company mandate for good practices (ISO series). Maintaining relationships with key local and provincial authorities to ensure compliance for key permits and licenses are maintained. Supporting inventory reduction actions and slow mover management supporting rework strategy and execution. Overseeing TQM and ensuring compliant storage of manufactured products. Preparing and overseeing Capex spend. Ensuring insurance cover is maintained and operations at all sites are compliant to permit conditions to avoid breach of insurance covers. Regularly reviewing site cost structures and competitiveness. Proposing and managing aggregate manufacturing budgets.
