Key requirements
  • Diploma/Degree in Safety, Health and Environment desired
  • Registration with SACPCMP
  • SAMATRAC or equivalent
  • Computer literate
  • Thorough knowledge of health and safety legislation in South Africa eg OHSACT and COID ACT and other relevant health and safety legislation and regulations
  • Working knowledge with dangerous goods and flammable fluids
  • Good communication, organizational and interpersonal relation skills are essential
  • Leadership abilities
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite particularly Excel

Key responsibilities
  • Assist in conducting internal audits, implementing practices, maintain and revise safety and environmental management processes and systems in accordance with the company's policies and standards as well as industry standards
  • Assist in developing, implementing and maintaining GPHSA internal health and safety policies and procedures in alignment with latest national legislation, industry standards and corporate policies
  • Assist in ensuring that the employer and its staff including contractors comply with health and safety legislation and safety policies are adopted and adhered to
  • Assist in carrying out regular health and safety risk inspections at the various workplaces and sites
  • Assist in ensuring that new installations and maintenance comply with health and safety regulations and standards
  • Assist in identifying training needs and ensuring adequate training is provided to relevant staff
  • Assist in developing, implementing and maintaining health & safety structures, systems and strategies within the company to ensure ongoing legal compliance and establishing occupational health and safety in all GPHSA work environments
  • Assist in keeping records of inspection findings and produce reports with recommendation for improvements
  • Assist in enforcing health and safety policies, rules and procedures
  • Attending Health and Safety seminars where possible, practical and applicable
  • Ensuring that staff, visitors and contractors are provided and wear required personal protective equipment at all times
  • Complying with all reasonable instructions within the context of the job description
