The company is looking for a Professionally registered Health and Safety officer with expertise in construction and civil works, to join the team of a well-established Construction firm based in Johannesburg. We are looking for an experienced, driven Health & Safety officer with a wealth of industry knowledge. To ensure success, the ideal candidate should be comfortable splitting their hours between the office, on-site visits, and attending council meetings. The Health and Safety officer should be a critical thinker. The candidate must also possess a certain level of creativity in order to present innovative solutions and improvements to technical processes. The successful candidate must be able to effectively communicate ideas, make recommendations, and negotiate project details with their team, subcontractors, and clients. Requirements Degree/diploma in Construction Health & Safety management OHS training certificates (NEDSAM or SAMTRAC) Responsibilities Assist with the preparation of a construction health and safety plan Confirm necessary documentation was submitted to the relevant authorities Attend project planning meetings Assessments and approval of contractor(s) health and safety plans Attend the contractor's site handover Attend regular site, technical and progress meetings Facilitate site health and safety meetings Identification of the hazards and risks relevant to the construction project through regular coordinated site inspections Establish and maintain health and safety communication structures and systems, distribution of health and safety-specific documents to sub-contractors Compiling project-specific emergency response and preparedness plans Testing the effectiveness of the emergency response plans Conduct site safety inductions Evaluate the levels of compliance of subcontractors to the project-specific health and safety plan and client specifications through inspections and audits Oversee the reporting and investigation of project-related incidents Oversee the maintenance of all records Participation in management reviews of the health and safety systems Use of trends analysis to identify system deficiencies and incident trends, outline relevant improvements Incorporation of changes into a health and safety management system Review and update the health and safety plan Development of technical reports in relation to health and safety issues and communication through presentations to diverse groups of decision-makers Desired Skills: OHS NEDSAM SAMTRAC Construction Desired Work Experience: 1 to 2 years Health, Safety & Environment Desired Qualification Level: Diploma About The Employer: Our organisation seeks to identify areas where cost-effective space and time-saving techniques can be used in the construction of homes, schools and other essential or non-essential buildings. Since 2012, we have been among the preferred suppliers of mobile classrooms to the Gauteng Department of Education and in 2018 completed the construction of other school facilities for Sasol in Mpumalanga Province. Our offering also includes the use of conventional construction methods in areas where such buildings may be required. In 2010, we were the preferred supplier of industrial cleaning equipment including refuse bags, cleaning chemicals as well as gardening equipment for Emfuleni and Garankuwa municipalities through the Clean-up campaign established by the Department of Environmental Affairs as a Pilot programme across 9 municipalities.
