A Risk/ Safety Officer facilitates compliance with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act guidelinesand provides advice on measures to minimize hazards or unhealthy situations whilst on the constantlookout for violations on site. The Risk/Safety Officer is a responsible individual who ensurescompliance and focuses on prevention. To establish a safe workplace according to legal standards andfoster a culture of attention to health and safety. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE - SAMTRAC Certificate or equivalent occupational SHE training. - National Diploma or equivalent in Health & Safety Management - Minimum of 5 years' relevant experience - National Senior Certificate / Matric - First Aid level 2 Basic Certificate - Fire Prevention Certificate - Environmental & Quality qualification an advantage - Computer literacy, with MS Office (excel intermediate to advanced) - Sound knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and the regulations - Experience with AEL and MHI Ideal - Experience of implementing Health and Safety Systems in a highly technical, complexindustrial environment is essential - Exposure to and understanding of implementation of ISO [Phone Number Removed]; and ISO 9001 - Well experienced in Company standards and programs requirements in order to pass onknowledge and requirements to others. - Must have experience in the management of contractors in line with the OHSA andConstruction Regulations - Experience working in an environment with Hazardous Chemicals would be ideal MINIMUM SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED - Excellent analytical skills - Excellent communication skills - Have good persuasion skills - Excellent report writing skills. - Planning and organizational skills - Attention to detail - Conscientious and farsighted - Ready to act in the face of emergencies - Time- management and promptness - Organizing skills - Ability to follow-up - Proactive - Personal Accountability and commitment - Ability to prioritize and work effectively under pressure - Strong administrative skills - Strong interpersonal skills - Good communication at all levels - Ability to train and motivate staff on procedures and systems ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Health & Safety - Running improvement projects as requested by management. - Develop, implement and maintain an effective health and safety program. - Ensure compliance to satisfy the requirements of legislation. - Co-ordinate health and safety committee meetings - Assist in appointment of safety representatives, first aiders and fire fighters in alldepartments and review and update the file. - Conduct monthly SHE & Risk Audits and correct all findings in specified period. - Co-ordinate evacuation and fire drill exercises - Update all health and safety files in the factory. - Compile registers for all safety equipment. - Ensure all policies and procedures are updated. - Arrange periodical medicals and hearing tests. - Investigate and evaluate incidents to determine the root cause. - Control services on site and relevant documentation. - General duties as prescribed by your department head. - Manage SHE communication such as weekly feedback on site observations and notifyrelevant departments of deviations. - Manage security issues as well security personnel and infrastructure (cameras, patrolsystems etc.). - Manage housekeeping personnel and ensure that housekeeping and hygiene standardsare upheld. - Hold weekly toolbox talks (problem/high risk topic identification, design andimplementation) - Risk induction for new employees and annual risk induction for all employees. - Supervision and co-ordination of on-site clinic and/or annual medicals - Develop and conduct risk assessments for all processes and activities within the site. - Develop safe work procedures to control, mitigate or eliminate identified risks. - Review risk assessments for work equipment and operations. - Ensure all accidents/incidents are documented, investigated and recommendedimprovements are implemented. - Carry out safety inspections on fire suppression systems, detection systems testing,performing the pump test weekly and ensure that all servicing and maintenance is up todate at all times. Health and Safety Compliance - Develop, implement and maintain an effective program and ensure compliance withlegislation requirement. - Develop systems to ensure all employees comply with all legal safety requirements. - Always ensure that health and safety is compliant with the occupational health and safetyact. - Identify unsafe acts, conditions and hazards, identify root cause and identify correctiveand preventative actions and report to management. KPI Reporting - Complete all weekly KPI's. - Maintain and improvement of KPI's if and when required. - Distribute KPI's in all departments. - Send updates KPI's to the management on a weekly basis and attend to queries. - Ensure that all KPI's are completed before KPI meetings. - Ensure that all DIFR calculations are correct. - Send the KPI's to management accurately and on time. - Compile reports on the status of all projects. Audits - Manage SHE and Fire risk audits yearly. - Deviations from the SHE and Fire risk audits should be completed within 3 months fromthe audit. Reporting - Compile and submit the following reports:? DIFR? Health and Safety Risk report? Update on findings from H&S audits. - Ensure that all information in reports are correct and submitted on time. General - Duties and responsibilities are, however, are not limited to this, all reasonable and lawfulrequests within your scope of work/abilities given by management are to be followedwhether this is inside or outside the factories. - Update new forms and new format if required. - Have Weekly meetings with all departments. - Ensure that quarterly audits have been conducted. - All information on boards is up to date. - Have weekly meetings with all departments. - Complete audits accurately and ensure that company standards are maintained. - Driving general improvement projects as requested by management. - Assist with disciplinaries related to non-conformance. - Ensure full and accurate safety-related training records. - Run electricity usage reports daily and send to management. - Ensure that information is correct and sent daily. - Order and control PPE for the site. - Coordinate forklift servicing (and other heavy lifting equipment) license renewals.
