Hospitality & Environmental Services Manager - Cape Town City Centre

A trusted and well established client of ours in The Middle East is seeking an experienced Hospitality & Environmental Services Manager.

The function of Hospitality & Environmental Services Manager is to oversee the hospital's support services departments in line with the organization's mission, vision and values. Areas supervised include laundry, housekeeping, housing/accommodation, food services, security services, transportation, safety, facilities, and maintenance.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and foster effective collaboration between departments and other affiliated services to ensure integrated approach to providing services.
  • Participates in the development and applications of standards of quality and productivity for the Support Services.
  • Monitors departmental personnel matters to include interviewing and the hiring of new staff, training,evaluating work performance, promotion, counseling, discipline and termination.
  • Develops, evaluates and implements: departmental policies and procedures, goals and objectives, and standards of work for the sections under his/her supervision.
  • Negotiates priorities, plans work schedules, makes job assignments, orders needed materials, supplies and parts. Recommends use of outside specialty contractors as circumstances indicate.
  • Responsible for the selection and coordination of all Support Services contractors and ensures all contractual provisions are met along with established codes.
  • Responsible for developing the annual operating budget, which includes personnel, equipment, materials and supply needs. Continues to monitor budget after adoption.
  • Prepares monthly, quarterly and annual reports.
  • Oversees the daily performance and grounds care of the hospital to assure a uniform and satisfactory landscaped appearance.
  • Ensure consistent cleanliness of the entire organization in compliance with the infection prevention and control guidelines.
  • Ensure sound facility (building, water, electricity) performance by ensuring timely implementation of the approved preventive maintenance program.
  • Ensures that all approved clinical equipment preventive maintenance is performed in a timely manner following the approved clinical equipment preventive maintenance program.
  • Ensure that provision of transportation services are timely; vehicles are safe by ensuring that vehicle preventive maintenance is performed in a timely manner.
  • Ensure adequate number of security staff is in place to maintain the safety of the patient, visitor and staff of the organization.
  • Responsible in ensuring that all security services staff is competent to perform assigned duties and task.
  • Ensure that food services staff and contracted services are following the approved policies and procedures .i.e.
  • Hard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP).
  • Participates in performance improvement information management programs.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and is able to identify each patient's age-specific needs to promote a safe environment needed by the patient group.
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Specialized Knowledge/Skills:

  • Ability to think and plan strategically.
  • Good understanding of principles and practice of managing staff performance.
  • Knowledge of change management and organizational development processes.
  • Ability to relate effective and build productive relationships at all levels of a complex organisation.
  • Ability to handle a diverse and challenging workload.
  • Ability to analyse complex problems and develop practical solutions.
  • Experience of managing significant budgets.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Working knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint Presentations, Outlook and Word.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to speak and write clearly and concisely in both Arabic and English.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare safety, operations and programs.

Education/Licensure:

  • Bachelor Degree in Engineering from a well-recognized and accredited University.
  • Formal training/certification in Facility and Safety.

Professional Experience:

  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in the same position in healthcare setting.
