HSE Coordinator - Durban

Our client, a respected multidisciplinary consulting engineering company has a vacancy for the position of Office HSE Coordinator.

As the Safety Coordinator you will be responsible for planning, implementing and overseeing the company's employee safety at work. Your main duty is to ensure that the company is in compliance and adheres to Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) guidelines to reduce work-related injuries.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent (NQF 4)
  • SAMTRAC / NEBOSH or equivalent
  • ITIS - Train the Trainer (NOSA)
  • HSEC Online (advantageous)
  • HIRA - Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment
  • RISKMAQ 1 & 2 (IRCA Global)
  • ISO 45001:2018 system, application, and maintenance (advantageous)
  • First Aid Level 1 Safety Principles and Practices
  • Incident Investigation
  • Root Cause Analysis Techniques (RCAT) / Incident Causes Analysis Method (ICAM)
  • Excellent working knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act & Regulations
  • SACPCMP Registration and advantage
  • Working PR Registration with either SAIOSH / SACPCMP and CQI and IRCA membership
  • Valid code 08 driver’s license
  • Computer literacy (MS Office)

JOB DESCRIPTION AND SKILLS:

Services of the Health & Safety Officer during the construction phase of a project include:

  • Assist with the preparation of a construction health and safety plan.
  • Confirm necessary documentation was submitted to the relevant authorities.
  • Attend project planning meetings.
  • Assessments and approval of contractor(s) health and safety plans.
  • Attend the contractor’s site handover.
  • Attend regular site, technical and progress meetings.
  • Facilitate site health and safety meetings.
  • Identification of the hazards and risks relevant to the construction project through regular, coordinated site inspections.
  • Establish and maintain health and safety communication structures and systems, distribution of health and safety specific documents to sub-contractors.
  • Compiling project specific emergency response and preparedness plans.
  • Testing the effectiveness of the emergency response plans.
  • Conduct office and site safety inductions.
  • Evaluate the levels of compliance of subcontractors to the project specific health and safety plan and client specifications through inspections and audits.
  • Oversee the reporting and investigation of project related incidents.
  • Oversee the maintenance of all records.
  • Participation in management reviews of the health and safety systems.
  • Use of trends analysis to identify system deficiencies and incident trends, outline relevant improvements.
  • Incorporation of changes into a health and safety management system.
  • Review and update the health and safety plan.
  • Development of technical reports in relation to health and safety issues and communicate through presentations to diverse groups of decision-makers.
  • Liaise with the Group National Coordinator on a regular basis or as required.
  • Ensure that all safety requirements in accordance with the OSH Act and construction Regulations are adhered to and implemented accordingly in the office and on site.
  • Ensure statutory compliance at all times.
  • Ensure that all staff are aware of the latest client PPE requirements and changes to client specific inductions and medicals.
  • Coordinating and tracking HSE training and issue of PPE.
  • Conduct incident investigation and issue reports as required.
  • Manage Man-hours and KPI’s.
  • Liaise with the design team, client or others if necessary to resolve discrepancies during the construction of the project work.
  • Recommend to the project director, where necessary, the requirements for additional resources and strategies to maintain HSE for the office and site.
  • Participate with project safety by working with the client appointed safety officer, and participation with the implementation of the safety Management plan and Emergency Procedures for the projects. Client appointed Safety Officer to be solely responsible for HSE Management on site.
  • Conduct progress meeting with the project managers/contractors and ensure that minutes are prepared and distributed as and when required.
  • Ensure corporate policies and procedures are fully implemented. Established project field procedures and objectives within corporate policies and procedures as necessitated by conditions at a jobsite.
  • Ensure adherence to all statutory requirements affecting the office and project sites.
  • Conduct a review of the contractor’s safety files and assist on achieving compliance.
  • Oversee the work of consultants/contractor involved in the construction work and measures, agree/approves HSE Documentation.
  • Maintain client relationships at all times.
  • Prepare and submit to the project director reports for HSE and Quality management purposes as and when requested.
  • Issue weekly and monthly HSE reposts.

REMUNERATION:

R250,000.00 – R300,000.00 CTC (dependent on qualifications and experience)
