Introduction The Perinatal HIV Research Unit (Wits PHRU) was established in 1996. The Perinatal HIV Research Unit has been involved in research, training, policy formation, and advocacy in issues concerning HIV-positive women and their children.In recent years the work of the unit has expanded beyond the original focus of mother-to-child transmission of HIV. Description Additional information: The PHRU is seeking dynamic and analytical individuals with a keen curiosity for disentangling and understanding public health problems through a bio-psychosocial lense They require a critical thinker to join their multi-disciplinary environment where young graduates are exposed to diverse research experiences – both qualitative and quantitative, and allowed to build their research careers in an established research unit that engages with key public health problems in South Africa and globally Interns will work with a Senior Research team and be supervised by an HPCSA-registered Research Psychologist This is an ideal position for candidates interested in registering with the HPCSA as a Research Psychologist Main purpose of the job: Conduct biopsychosocial research activities, including study design and development, implementation, and information dissemination Location: PHRU – Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, Soweto - Johannesburg Key performance areas: Assist with grant writing and submission Assist with study design, development, and implementation Literature reviews Psychometric assessments Development of study tools (questionnaires, SOPs, interview guides) and databases Development and facilitation of training workshops Data collection, cleaning, and analysis Research study administration activities Facilitate and participate in project meetings Oversee ethical and regulatory requirements and maintain regulatory records Information dissemination through manuscript writing and conference presentations Stakeholder engagement Scheduling of study activities Assist with study-related tasks as needed Health economics data collection Time in-motion assessments Required minimum education and training: Master’s Degree in Research Psychology or equivalent qualification At least some of these skills: Computer skills using MS Excel, MS Access and MS Word Statistical software (STATA or SPSS or R or ATLAS.ti (or equivalent)) A valid driver’s license Required minimum work experience: This is an internship post for Master's graduates to grow their skills TO APPLY: Only if you do meet the minimum job requirements and experience as mentioned above, you may submit a detailed updated CV.
