Junior Mechanical Designer/Mechanical Draughtsman - South Africa

Overall, your role as a Junior Mechanical Designer specializing in FMCG Machinery and proficient in Autodesk Inventor is dynamic and multifaceted, requiring a combination of technical expertise, creativity, and teamwork to deliver innovative solutions that drive efficiency and competitiveness in the FMCG industry.

Requirements

  • Inventor Experience
  • 2-4 years experience as a draughtsman
  • Own transport & Drivers license
  • Proactive and self-motivated

Responsibilities:

  • Design and Drafting: Utilizing Autodesk Inventor and other design software, you'll be responsible for creating detailed 3D models and 2D drawings of machinery components and assemblies. This includes conceptualizing, prototyping, and refining designs based on client requirements and industry standards.

  • Product Development: Collaborating with cross-functional teams including engineers, production managers, and quality assurance personnel to develop innovative machinery solutions that meet performance, cost, and timeline objectives. You'll be involved in the entire product development lifecycle from concept ideation to final production.

  • Technical Documentation: Generating technical documentation such as assembly instructions, part catalogs, and maintenance manuals to assist production, installation, and servicing teams. This documentation ensures that all stakeholders have the necessary information to operate and maintain the machinery effectively.

  • Prototype Testing and Validation: Conducting tests and simulations to validate the functionality, reliability, and safety of machinery prototypes. Analysing test results and making design modifications as needed to enhance performance and meet regulatory requirements.

  • Cost Optimization: Identifying opportunities for cost reduction through design optimization, material selection, and process improvements without compromising quality or performance. Working closely with procurement and manufacturing teams to implement cost-effective solutions.

  • Continuous Improvement: Participating in design reviews, brainstorming sessions, and post-project evaluations to identify lessons learned and areas for improvement in future projects. Staying updated on industry trends, technological advancements, and best practices to enhance your skills and contribute to the overall success of the team.

  • Client Interaction: Engaging with clients to understand their specific requirements, address concerns, and provide technical support throughout the project lifecycle. Building strong relationships with clients by delivering high-quality solutions that exceed their expectations.

  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring that machinery designs comply with relevant industry regulations, standards, and safety guidelines such as ISO, CE, and FDA requirements. Keeping abreast of regulatory changes and incorporating necessary modifications into design specifications.
