Description REQUIREMENTS Degree/ Diploma in Natural Science, Food Science/ Technology or equivalent At least 3-5 years of relevant experience as a Lab Manager, preferably in an FMCG environment Strong interpersonal and communication skills Computer literacy Ability to manage a team, work under pressure and meet deadlines RESPONSIBILITIES Manage both the chemistry and microbiological laboratory and ensure that the Labs are fully operational Ensure all dairy products including raw materials, packaging materials, milk, butter, and cheese are tested by the laboratory technicians at various stages of the production process (as per procedures), for all chemical, microbial and organoleptic parameters Ensure compliance of testing methods to standard procedures and ensure that all incubated milk samples are collected and tested after incubation periods Maintain acceptable proficiency score with an accredited laboratory Ensure daily capturing of all results and provide professional opinion in cases of non-conformance Assist in the investigation of any quality-related deviations and customer complaints Produce and coordinate the yearly quality control action plan and prepare reports for daily, weekly, and monthly updates to the Quality Manager and Plant Managers Manage validation, calibration, monitoring and verification plan of measurement and testing equipment (i.e. pH meter, scales, thermometers, incubators, etc.) in the laboratories and the entire site Identify corrective action required for test results outside the acceptable range in collaboration with the Quality Assurance Specialist and Quality Manager Monitor performance by gathering relevant data, as well as the preparation of statistical reports for management to review and provide suggestions on continuous improvements Responsible for line releases after operational routine intervention, operational non-routine intervention, periodic interventions and new equipment/ new line Responsible for developing and reviewing both chemistry and microbiology laboratory sampling plans as outlined by the legislature Ensure that all samples analysed by the external lab are collected and sent to the lab on time and non-conforming results are communicated to the QA specialist, Production Manager, Plant Manager and Quality Manager Revise and update relevant checklists, and standard operating procedures and communicate changes to all relevant stakeholders Ensure that ad-hoc trials, investigations, and samples are collected, and analysed and that the results are communicated Conduct and maintain scheduled internal audits schedules and assist with external audits Monitor and provide support to ensure that direct reports perform their duties and responsibilities to the required level of competence Coordinate shift scheduling with all staff, verify time/ attendance records and leave schedules for technicians and laboratory assistants
