Laboratory Analyst - Cape Town City Centre

Water Treatment company based in Cape Town region, has a vacancy for a Laboratory Analyst. Diploma in Analytical Chemistry or similar and a minimum of 1-3 years’ experience in Laboratory environment preferably an accredited water/ wastewater analysis laboratory. The role focusses on assisting Engineering and Operations departments and contributing to the administrative functions within the laboratory to maintain its upkeep and to ensure processes are effective. The laboratory analyst’s role is to perform routine sample analysis; provide technical support through investigations; and to prepare inventory for sites and projects. Requirements: Diploma in Analytical Chemistry, or similar. 1 – 3 years working in laboratory environment - preferably an accredited water/wastewater analysis laboratory. Sound theoretical and practical knowledge of chemistry, analytical equipment, and laboratory techniques. Familiar with Good Lab Practices (GLP) and laboratory safety. Practical experience from an ISO17025 facility will be an advantage Computer literate, including in MS Office. Organised and diligent: must be able to execute tasks methodically, conscientiously, and timeously. Numerical and data handling: must be able to gather, process data, and present data. Communication and literacy skills: must have sound verbal and written skills to strictly follow protocols and procedures. Problem solving and critical evaluation skills: must be able to apply knowledge to understand, experiment, resolve and improve systems, procedures, and methods. Duties: It is the responsibility of the Laboratory Analyst to execute tasks assigned by the company, at the discretion and approval of Executive in accordance with the company’s policies, protocols, and departmental work instructions. These tasks may include but not limited to: Perform routine chemical analysis of water samples. Perform routine quality control verifications and equipment calibrations. Record sample analysis results and monitor analysis requests. Perform method verification on identified methods. Assist with troubleshooting and root-cause analysis, as required. Conduct investigations through research and experimental work. Advise on analytical equipment and procedures. Perform monthly stock take. Assist with routine housekeeping and management of laboratory waste. Assist with writing and reviewing work instructions, risk assessments, and methods.
