UNIVERSITY OF PRETORIA VARIOUS FACULTIES NEW GENERATION OF ACADEMICS PROGRAMME (nGAP) POSITIONS: Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in the following Faculties/Departments: Education: Educational Psychology (1 post) Science, Mathematics & Technology Education (1 post) Engineering, Built Environment and Information Technology: Chemical Engineering (1 post) Health Sciences: Dean’s Office (Undergraduate- and Surgical Skills Laboratories) (1 post) Humanities: Philosophy (1 post) The incumbents will be required to: Participate in a formal development programme aimed at strengthening their aspirations and skills as researchers and lecturers; Teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses; Mentor and supervise postgraduate students; Conduct collaborative research in their research specialisation areas; Play an active role as academics, nationally and internationally; Complete their PhD studies in instances where these have not yet been completed; Assume limited administration responsibilities in their departments. Closing date: 16 APRIL 2024 No application will be considered after the closing date, or if it does not comply with at least the minimum requirements LECTURER: A Master’s degree with a 70% average mark in the relevant discipline; Illustrate the potential to become a competent lecturer at the undergraduate level; Illustrate strong potential to become an established researcher. SENIOR LECTURER: A relevant doctoral degree; Proven teaching experience; Proven record of publications; Proven record of supervision of postgraduate students to completion. For Educational Psychology: A Master’s degree in Educational Psychology and registration with HPCSA in the category of Educational Psychology / A doctoral degree in Educational Psychology / Psychology / and registration with HPCSA as an Educational Psychologist. For Science, Mathematics & Technology Education: A Master’s degree in the field of Computer Integrated Education / Educational Technology / PhD in the field of Computer Integrated Education / Educational Technology. For Chemical Engineering : A BEng/BScEng degree in Chemical Engineering or closely related discipline from a university of which the undergraduate programme is registrable with Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) / A Masters’ degree in Chemical Engineering or closely related discipline that follows on the previous qualification / A PhD degree in Chemical Engineering or closely related discipline, that follows on the previous qualification, with a focus on core chemical engineering science, process modelling, control and optimisation, in particular, and the application of such in the following research areas, sustainable environment and water utilisation, advanced and applied materials, sustainable and efficient energy processes and process control and optimisation. For the Undergraduate- and Surgical Skills Laboratory: A Master’s degree in any field in Healthcare Science with a strong focus on simulation based education and registration with a relevant professional body such as the Health Professions Council of South Africa or the South African Nursing Council / A Doctoral degree in any field in Healthcare Science with a strong focus on simulation based education and registration with a relevant professional body such as the Health Professions Council of South Africa or the South African Nursing Council. For Philosophy: A Master’s degree in Philosophy (Philosophy of Science or Philosophy of Medicine will be preferred) or relevant discipline / A Doctoral degree in Philosophy (Philosophy of Science or Philosophy of Medicine will be preferred) or relevant doctoral degree. RECOMMENDATIONS: Good communication skills; Interpersonal- and mentoring skills; Leadership potential; Experience in interdisciplinary, collaborative research; Proven record of national and international teamwork; Some first author publications in peer-reviewed journals One-year teaching/tutoring and research experience at undergraduate/postgraduate levels (lecturer) The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent’s level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines.
