Legal & Compliance Officer (Freight Forwarding & Logistics) - Kempton Park
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Legal and Compliance Officer (Freight Forwarding and Logistics) to ensure that our operations adhere to the legal and regulatory framework within the South African freight and logistics industry. Responsibilities: 1. Legal Compliance in Freight Forwarding: • Monitor and ensure compliance with South African laws and regulations governing freight forwarding and logistics operations. • Assist with maintaining ISO 9001 certification of the company. 2. Contract Management for Logistics: • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts related to freight forwarding, transportation, and logistics services. • Ensure that contracts comply with relevant local and international regulations. 3. Customs and Import/Export Compliance: • Oversee customs compliance for import and export activities and assist with SARS enquiries when needed. • Stay abreast of changes in customs regulations and update internal processes accordingly .4. Transportation Regulatory Compliance: • Ensure compliance with transportation regulations, including licensing andpermits. • Collaborate with relevant authorities to maintain necessary certifications. 5. Risk Management in Logistics: • Identify and assess legal and compliance risks associated with freight and logistics operations as per ISO 9001 regulations. 4• Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies in collaboration with the operations team. • Promote a culture of compliance and ethical conduct within the company. Requirements: • Fluent in Afrikaans & English. • Bachelor's degree in Law or related field. • Proven experience as a Legal and Compliance Officer in the freight forwarding and logistics industry in South Africa. • In-depth knowledge of South African and international laws and regulations relevant to freight forwarding and logistics. • Familiarity with customs regulations, transportation laws, and industry standards. • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams. • Attention to detail, analytical mindset, and problem-solving skills.
