An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Maintenance Manager responsible for the company’s backup diesel generators across all its sites in the Western Cape. Reporting to : Head of Engineering Job Specification – Key Performance Areas: Responsible for the technical operations of the I&J standby genset fleet. This includes overseeing the daily operations of maintenance and repair, budgeting, general assessment of gensets and their switchgear etc. Ensure the gensets are technically operational and local onsite management aware of their status Liaise with I&J engineers, contractors and workshops on technical and operational matters Attend to genset major service outages, and determine desired repair specifications / work scope for planned outages and maintenance Provide and compile documented reports upon completion of services, repairs and inspections, including summaries of work performed, operational budgets, and actual expenditure Identify and source technical and operational partners to enhance the support for the various gensets used within the business Ensure that all copies of statutory and equipment certificates are properly maintained and documented Perform evaluations for outage works, repair quotes and selection of service providers for maintenance work Perform monthly and daily reviews of running logs and genset performance data Monitor operational status of all gensets via wireless offsite interface monitoring systems Supervise contractors and in-house personnel conducting the maintenance of gensets Train I&J maintenance personnel on relevant preventive maintenance procedures and fault-finding Perform budgeting and cost control measures on identified spares and scheduled maintenance outage requirements Perform investigations into defects and failures Work with the Planning team to ensure smooth and successful implementation of a robust maintenance regime for all the I&J gensets Ensure critical spares availability for all I&J generators at all sites, with defined storage and reordering practices Perform systematic review of recommended operating and maintenance guidelines and standards, and ensure compliance with national standards Ensure and maintain a genset zero loss time accident record and to report all incidents, near misses to prevent and eliminate potential recurrence of such incidents Undertake any other technical-related assignments as and when required Minimum Requirements: Experience: Minimum 10 years relevant experience, which must include hands-on diesel engine repairs, overhaul and fault-finding and no less than 5 years supervisory / management experience. Experience with standby generator electrical and control systems. Qualifications: Trade-tested diesel mechanic or fitter & turner. National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering. Possess relevant sea-going work experience as Chief Engineer / Marine Engineer with minimum Class 1 certification unlimited would be advantageous Additional requirements: Technical expertise and management skills in the coordination of multiple jobs with complex scope, schedule, quality and management objectives; including the design or alteration of equipment and the planning and implementation thereof Experience planning, organizing, and coordinating work of own team and site staff and workshops Ability to problem solve and provide leadership to achieve strategic objectives Proven troubleshooting, problem solving and investigational skills Skill in measurement, analysis, and continuous improvement in engineering organizations Initiates and maintains extensive contacts with key engineers and representatives of other organizations Experience with the establishment and utilization of risk assessment systems Encourages others to adapt their behaviours, norms, and processes to strengthen strategic or cross-boundary relationships Willing to travel locally within South Africa.
