Manager: Application Development - Gauteng
We are looking for a dedicated and strategic Manager: Application Development with 10 – 15 years ICT management experience to be accountable for a team that monitors, analyses, designs and develops group’s software applications. The manager will be in charge of developing new applications and maintaining, supporting, and upgrading existing systems and applications needed to keep the business running. You should have excellent software architecture, design, solution skills, communication, conflict management and leadership skills to be able to collaborate with Business, developers and system owners of software programs and applications. Responsibilities: Manage the development and deployment of new applications, systems software and/or enhancements to existing applications throughout the organisation. Ensure that development project meet business requirements. Manage and provide direction for the application development team in support of business applications. Review and analyse existing applications effectiveness and efficiency, and then develop strategies for improving or leveraging these systems. Research and make recommendation on software products and services in support of procurement and development efforts. Co-ordinate feasible studies for software and systems products under consideration for purchase, and give advice based on findings. Develop and maintain standards of project planning, and all application and systems documents. Ensuring that plans and documentation are kept up to date at all times Interact with project team member(s) for the successful delivery of projects within time and budget and managing project documents such as, project charter, statement of work, status reports and budget documentation. Create and maintain project plans and work breakdown structures and meet changing needs and requirements. Create and maintain project budget and reports on any variances. Have tactical and overall operational responsibility for project teams, define, monitor and update the overall development plan, with particular emphasis on setting realistic deadlines. To choose people who can carry out the mission of ICT and to take responsibility for their contributions to the organisations. Establishing effective reporting lines. Delegation of responsibilities and job functions. Clear identification of goals and objectives. Finance and budgeting accountability. Resource management, development and training Ensure that all production systems are supported and maintained according to industry standards for quality systems, and the requests for amendments and enhancements are properly authorized, change managed, and implemented in accordance with change control standards. Responsible for decision making and execution. Ensure that we establish structures and processes in a discipline manner according to global best practices. Ensure that Software development, Project management, testing and ICT Governance framework are adhered to. REQUIREMENTS: Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology. Software Solution skills Application architecture and design thinking Information Technology certifications such as ITIL Good problem solving and analytical skills. Understanding, Business/System Analyst area of knowledge. Good understanding of SDLC conceptual model. Technical and Behavioural Competencies High level understanding of budgeting and cost control. Intermediate level of strategic planning and objectives. Decision making. Project management. Maintaining standards and policies
