Our client in Mozambique - Tete is looking for a Milepost 1 Teacher to join their team for a job vacancy within the Education industry. .1 Prepares and plans lessons with clear teaching objectives, contents, lesson structures and sequences appropriate to the two grades which constitute Milepost One . (Year Two and Year Three) 1.2 Keeps a weekly planner or day book The International Primary Curriculum 1.3 The International Primary Curriculum is theme based and covers History, Geography, Science, Art, Social and International Impacts and some topics even include Music and Physical Education. 1.4 Teacher is required to research the theme topics and prepare tasks which are demanding enough to extend each child, but also within their capability so that they do not become disheartened. 1.5 Lessons to be planned to achieve the IPC learning objectives. 1.6 Plan lessons involving learning resources and use of the Smart Board, including the design and printing of worksheets. 1.7 Plan assessment activities. Literacy 1.8 The teacher has the responsibility of planning and implementing the methods by which the basic sounds (phonics) are taught in order to enable the children to learn to read. 1.9 Once the children have mastered the basics of reading, further skills like oral and written comprehension, story writing, and grammar, are introduced. 1.10 The teacher will listen to reading every day and set age and grade appropriate homework tasks to reinforce what was done in class. 1.11 The teacher will instruct the children in letter formation during handwriting lessons and teach them how to set out work logically and neatly. 1.12 Identifies children who have special needs such as dyslexia, poor eyesight, hearing and know where to get help in order to give positive support 1.13 Keeps record of parent correspondence, assessments made of pupils, reports, accidents and days children have missed. Numeracy (Mathematics) 1.14 The teacher must plan appropriate activities to teach the children to count and to perform basic addition and subtraction operations. 1.15 As the children progress, further skills like halving and doubling of numbers, bonds, the time tables and fractions are introduced. 1.16 As the children's numeracy skills and reading skills develop, problem solving sums are introduced. 2. Teaching 2.1 The teacher is required to teach all the subjects except Portuguese. 2.2 The teacher must find new and interesting methods to introduce and present topics. 2.3 The teacher must identify any areas where children may be experiencing learning difficulties and attempt to correct these. 2.4 The teacher must work with groups and with individuals in order to optimise the learning experience. 2.5 The teacher must make use of teaching aids and the Smart Board in order to make lessons more visual and interesting. 2.6 The teacher must remain up to date on current educational trends and attend training when appropriate. 2.7 The teacher must plan and prepare for the annual International Week by researching her country of choice and arranging a programme of activities for the week. 2.8 The teacher must plan and prepare for the annual Book Week by researching the chosen book or author and arranging activities around these for the week. 2.9 The teacher must mark and assess all the children's work in order to assess the children's progress. 3 CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT 3.1 Keep a note book for correspondence between teacher and parent. 3.2 Enforce discipline, set high expectations for pupils' behaviour, first and foremost, by well-focused teaching, and positive relationships. 3.3 The teacher must provide a positive learning environment. 3.4 Allow an open door policy where parents are able to come in and discuss issues / questions before or after school 3.5 Host parent/teacher conferences in the afternoon 3.6 Write detailed reports on each student twice a year and send them home and allow for feedback. 3.7 Send out IPC reports with the biannual report. 4. management of professional matters 4.1. Acts professionally outside the school 4.2. Sets good examples to the pupils in presentation of herself, dress code and personal conduct and language 4.3. Evaluates own teaching critically & tries to improve on her effectiveness 4.4. Provides good, effective working relationship with teaching colleagues 5. Extra-mural Activities 5.1. The teacher is required to teach class music to the Milepost One, Two and Three classes (Years 1 -7). 5.2. The teacher is required to plan and rehearse for the annual Carols and Nativity play which is presented to the parents after the Awards Evening. 5.3. The teacher is required to arrange and play music at Friday assemblies. 5.4. The teacher is required to assist at school sporting and cultural events. 5.5. Produce class presentations in the form of plays, shows, speeches for assemblies. Common Responsibilities 5.6. Playground duties- keeps strict control of games and discipline 5.7. The teacher is required to help with the maintenance of discipline in the school. Supervision Given Describe the supervision given, to whom and how often (for example: Supervises the artisans through daily meetings and planning sessions) To Caretaker when preparing for cultural events. Incumbent must ensure they choose topics for each IPC Unit in advance Termly curriculum choices Weekly detailed plan in the form of a work book EDUCATION State the minimum level of formal school education required for this job. (This may not equate to the standard of education of the present incumbent) Mozambique school leaver's certificate, grade 12 or equivalent. POST SCHOOL QUALIFICATIONS State the minimum level of formal post school qualifications required for this job (for example: a Degree, Diploma, Certificate, City & Guilds Apprenticeship qualifications). A Higher Diploma in Education or Bachelor of Education Degree EXPERIENCE State the minimum length and type of relevant experience required for this job from qualifying (for example: three years' experience in the design and maintenance of certain equipment may be required for a technical position). 3 – 5 years teaching experience SUMMARY OF INDICATORS OF THE JOB SIZE IN THE ORGANISATION (applicable to appropriate levels of posts only) Holds full responsibility for: Direct and indirect number of permanent/non permanent staff Value of budget managed for the current year for the relevant Department, Section or Unit Value of assets managed for the Department, Section or Unit (for example: equipment, plant, machinery, and product) Education of the children in her class Teaching moral values at school Discipline of the students in her class Assessing each child's progress HAZARDS AND SAFETY REQUIREMENTS State only specific hazards that would lead to safety training or the wearing of safety equipment on a continual basis (for example: job holder is required to wear full safety equipment - mask, overalls and boots for the 8 hour shift) Job holder is required to wear applicable and designated protective clothing.
