This is a specialist management position that reports directly to the COO and serves on the MWL MANCO. This role is accountable for providing operational management and support for the Underwriting function across the MWL business and undertakes medical underwriting as required. Key responsibilities include: Execute and maintain the Underwriting philosophy and strategy to support new business, client servicing and claims. Maintain and continually improve operational best practices and processes People management Manage stakeholder relationships Drive operational effectiveness and efficiencies Undertake required related MIS, analysis and reporting Manage team expenses What will make you successful in this role? Qualification & experience Matric with Nursing Degree/Diploma or relevant medical qualification 3-5 years underwriting experience is required Experience in financial distribution services/sales/call centre environment People management experience will be advantageous Knowledge and skills IT: MS: Office (Excel, Word, PP, Outlook) MIS Thought Express QuircNext X Mind Business/Management: General Financial Services industry knowledge Long-term insurance knowledge MWL business and operating model MWL product knowledge Relevant regulatory legislation and compliance knowledge Call centre and sales processes Policy contracts governances, clauses, cover Claims and assessor principles, processes and governances Medical/health assessment indicators and metrics Underwriting rules, processes and guiding principles specific to the Direct to client channel MIS and reporting Quality and risk monitoring processes Cost management People management Systems and process maintenance Personal attributes Sound planning and organising orientation Problem solver Good communicator/confidents Client orientated Quality orientation Sound ethics Analytical and detail minded Sales and results focused Financial and business acumen Able to build relationships/partnerships Qualification and Experience Diploma with 8 to 12 years related experience. Underwriting limit R2.5 million.
