Look no further – Carrol Boyes is seeking a talented Packaging Technologist to join our dynamic Art Department at our Carrol Boyes Head Office in Paarden Eiland. Key Responsibilities Collaborate with the product developer and Head of Merchandise to determine the appropriate packaging type(s) and technical specifications for the packaging of each product. Compile specifications for required packaging for suppliers, being mindful of the cost, and nature of the product and moving towards better for the environment packaging journey. Liaise with packaging suppliers to obtain or create packaging die-lines as required. Write a comprehensive photography brief for the Graphics department, ensuring that the shots meet the packaging requirements and style advised by the Head of Merchandise and Product Developer. Compile and prepare the necessary information for the Packaging Graphic Designer, including descriptive copy, assembly instructions, ingredients, care and use/warnings, shop the range info, QR code link, and other relevant information or icons. Create a packaging brief for relevant stakeholders both internal and external, encompassing technical specs as well as aesthetic considerations. Ensure that the final packaging design by the Packaging Graphic Designer is reviewed and approved in line with the approvals process, and relevant HODs Coordinate the submission of the packaging design to the manufacturer(s) and follow up on progress, managing timelines so as not to delay any production. Obtain samples of the packaging from the manufacturer, conduct thorough checks, label the samples, and file or archive them for future reference. Ensure print and colour consistency. Provide feedback to the supplier and oversee necessary changes, if required. Ensure that the packaging sample is approved and proceeds to production, while closely monitoring the progress, and managing the timeline. Obtain final packaging dimensions and accurately complete the Product Spec sheets. Obtain or specify outer carton details in coordination with shipping/buying departments and fill in the Product Spec sheets accordingly. If the packaging is produced locally and the product is packed in-house, create Bill of Materials codes for the packaging. Advise the Supply Depot on the proper packing of products for end delivery to customers or stockists. Spearheaded a project to move towards sustainability in packaging, making recommendations on improving the eco-friendly nature of our packaging, being mindful of cost considerations, and liaising with suppliers to affect this. Perform the above-mentioned tasks for both new products and existing products undergoing revamping or re-ordering with updated or improved packaging requirements. Minimum Requirements: 3-5 years of packaging experience, including designing die-lines and print media involvement. Experience in a home-ware environment and a passion for packaging design. Educational background in industrial design, packaging technology, or equivalent. Skills: Advanced computer literacy, including Microsoft Office and Excel proficiency. Strong problem-solving skills with an ability to investigate unusual variances. Exceptional organizational and time management abilities. Advanced design sense with an eye for aesthetics.
