Metallurgical Test Laboratory Manager - Klerksdorp, North West - Job-3992 Metallurgical Test Laboratory Manager needed to oversee the day-to-day laboratory operations to ensure accurate and timely results, while maintaining a safe and efficient work environment. Ideal candidate will have a Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent in science, 10 years operating in an analytical or metallurgical laboratory environment, 5 years in a management or supervisory role. You will need to be familiar with QA/QC systems, their implementation and maintenance as well as knowledge of metallurgical testwork procedures, specifically within the physical separation field. Position details: Type: Permanent Job description / core competencies: Manage the operational lab team, ensuring best practices are followed. Communicate key processes and objectives to employees. Carry out induction and training of seasonal employees. Provide training and mentoring to ensure good understanding of the tasks allocated and provide constructive feedback when improvement is required. Manage and schedule laboratory workload to ensure all work is performed in an efficient and timely manner. Ensure Laboratory operations and systems meet industry requirements and are performed to a high standard. Contribute to and maintain requirements and documented procedures relevant to QC aspects to ensure all results are accurate, reliable and traceable. Provide guidance and assistance to lab team concerning work methods, use of equipment and techniques. Health and Safety: Responsible for ensuring all laboratory staff are aware of hazards within the work area and perform the required work in a safe manner. Responsible for supervision of staff on shift. Ensure that all test-work data is captured electronically. Ensure traceability of all test-work data and reporting. Ensure sample management and tracking is maintained to industry standards. Coordinate sample movement between laboratory and third party service providers. Maintain relationships with key stakeholders to ensure timely and accurate reporting of results. Manage and schedule all maintenance required on laboratory equipment. Maintain frequent communication with relevant stakeholders regarding test-work schedule and progress. Ensure timeous communication of any faults or delays that occur during operations. Troubleshoot common problems that may occur, regarding equipment, procedures and test-work. Develop SOP’s and ensure the industry best practices are adhered to. Develop and capture log-sheets relevant to the test-work being performed. Location: Klerksdorp, North West Job Qualifications, Skills & Experience: Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent in science or related field is an advantage. 10 years operating in an analytical or metallurgical laboratory environment. 5 years in a management or supervisory role. Familiarity with QA/QC systems, their implementation and maintenance. Knowledge of metallurgical testwork procedures, specifically within the physical separation field is an advantage. Must possess excellent communication (oral and written), organizational and interpersonal skills. Proficient in MS Office applications. Possess the ability to make sound informed decisions quickly and to take ownership of these decisions and their outcomes.
