Planning Engineer - Johannesburg

Job Description
  • Allocated projects are provided with the necessary set of planning documents appropriate for the size and phase of the project, including schedules / program, Schedule Basis Memorandum etc. Documents are consistent in format and appearance.
  • For allocated projects, planning documents comply with the contract requirements, and corporate or project specific procedures and are issued through WebDMS.
  • For allocated projects, planning and progress monitoring tools (preferably standard tools WebDMS, CMS) are in place and updated in accordance with the project cut off and reporting requirements.
  • For allocated projects, all planning reports and deliverables are accurate and issued on time. Where necessary these are accompanied by a narrative to explain changes and movement within the program. Progress measurement is traceable between the progress measurement system and schedule/programme.
  • For allocated projects, the current forecast of total key quantities is maintained. Key planning and duration statistics of the project has been populated into the Project Statistics Database on an ongoing basis, both budget/original plan and actual.
Responsibilities
  • Understand all relevant documentation pertaining to the project including scope of services, conditions of contract, project execution plan, project schedule, etc.
  • Work within the standard planning/scheduling procedures. Ensure that these procedures comply with contractual reporting requirements and, if not, modify accordingly, with assistance from the Senior or Lead Planner.
  • Set up all necessary tools and processes for accurate planning, progress measurement and reporting.
  • Interface with others, including Client and Construction Contracts Personnel.
  • Attending internal, client and contractor progress meetings, reviews and other planning/progress related activities.
  • Critically analyze reports and documents provided by Suppliers and Construction Contractors and using such information for further reporting purposes.
  • Timely preparation, update and issue of:
  1. Overall Project Schedule Level 1
  2. Project Schedule Level 2
  3. Project Network Level 3
  4. Schedule Basis Memorandum (SBM)
  5. Manpower Projection Plan
  6. Critical Equipment Lists/Schedules
  7. Progress S-Curves and tabulations
  8. Manhour/Manpower histograms
  9. Short-term look ahead schedules
  10. Monthly progress report including narrative.
Produce current physical progress reports and final job statistics.Maintain accurate schedule and control curves in an updated condition.Analyze schedule trends and produce regular forecasts of schedule performance and issues for project review.Maintain awareness and understanding of relevant systems operated by other departments.Undertake analysis of construction contractor and supplier schedules, including extension of time/delay claims in accordance with the requirement of the contract. Transmit such analysis formally.Undertake what-if scenarios, schedule risk analysis and other related analysis as required under guidance of the Senior or Lead Planner.Perform any other functions as directed by the Project Controls Manager or Lead Planner.Qualifications:
  • National Diploma in Engineering or equivalent, or sufficient relevant experience over and above that stated below, in lieu of qualification requirements.
