Our client has a big solar/substation project in Upington and is looking for a Planning Engineer, to start in June 2024.

The Planning Engineer will be responsible for coordinating and overseeing all aspects of project planning, scheduling, and progress monitoring for the solar project in Upington. This role requires a detail-oriented individual with strong analytical skills and a background in engineering, preferably in the renewable energy sector.

Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and maintain project schedules, ensuring alignment with project goals and objectives.
  2. Coordinate with project stakeholders to identify project requirements, constraints, and milestones.
  3. Prepare detailed work plans, resource allocation schedules, and cost estimates for project execution.
  4. Conduct risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies to minimize project risks.
  5. Monitor project progress and performance against established schedules and key performance indicators.
  6. Analyze project data and provide regular reports to project management on project status, deviations, and corrective actions.
  7. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve scheduling conflicts and optimize resource utilization.
  8. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards throughout the project lifecycle.
  9. Continuously identify opportunities for process improvement and implement best practices to enhance project efficiency and effectiveness.
  10. Support project managers in decision-making by providing timely and accurate data analysis and recommendations.

Requirements:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Engineering (preferably Electrical, Mechanical, or Renewable Energy).
  2. Proven experience (8+ years) in project planning and scheduling, preferably in the renewable energy sector.
  3. Proficiency in project management tools and software, such as Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, or equivalent.
  4. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and make data-driven decisions.
  5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  6. Detail-oriented and highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously.
  7. Knowledge of renewable energy technologies and industry trends is desirable.
  8. Certification in project management (e.g., PMP) is a plus.
  9. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as in a team environment.
  10. Willingness to travel occasionally and work flexible hours as required by project demands.
