My client, in the manufacturing industry, is looking to employ a Production Supervisor for their branch in Kempton Park. The ideal candidate will manage the conversion of product from raw material state into finished goods product in the most efficient cost-effective manner according to internationally benchmarked standards and practices. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Managing Production Outputs 1.1 Ensure production schedules (PSA)are met by Liaising with factory manager regarding customer demand. (Pacer Plan) Planning and scheduling production in line in accordance with the pacer plan and any changes in customer demand. Communicating planning schedules effectively with Team leaders and team members. Ensure short interval controls are performed at the correct times to ensure plan production targets are met, and inventory is in place. Ensure 100% MPSP and 95% PSA performance 1.2 Re-scheduling production based on customer demand changing, unforeseen plant/component breakdown or shortages ext. by liaising with the Factory Manager and discussing changes with the Team leaders and team members 1.3 Monitor production progress by discussing production plan achievement with Team leaders and team members daily. Follow up actions through daily documented Green area meeting. All action plans to be documented with clear actions responsibilities and due dates. 1.4 Identify production problems and discuss possible solutions with Team leaders and key team member to achieve plan achievements. 1.5 Monitor production output daily and implement actions to improve performance should performance vary from accepted production levels. 1.6 Develop medium to long term actions to improve production performance, and reduce variability through a process of continuous improvement. 2 Quality 2.1 Ensure that acceptable quality levels are maintained according to acceptable standards, by -. Ensuring that employees are trained and aware of standards required. Motivate employees to improve quality of products in manufacturing. Review and implement corrective actions to eliminate quality deficiencies by reviewing rejects, rework and customer returns daily. Institute corrective actions timeously to prevent possible losses to the company and disruptions to customers. Quality must be discussed daily in Green area meeting and corrective actions must be implemented. Reduce Quality defects by 50% annually (Daily Focus) Control boards to be update daily (By team members) Reject rates at Final inspection to be less than 3%, check stats daily and implement action to address rejection rates that exceed this margin. Develop actions to reduce reject, rework and customer return rates with a focus on employee Involvement and development of a positive quality culture. 2.2 Develop effective procedures and instructions in the areas under your control to ensure the effective management of the production conversion processes in line with ISO 9000 QMS requirements. 3 Condition of Plant Equipment and Safety of Employees 3.1 Discuss major planned maintenance requirements with the Factory Manager with a view to improving plant reliability and safety. 3.2 Ensure that routine daily, weekly and monthly maintenance is conducted on all equipment and moulds to ensure optimal performance and to reduce possible long term damages. 3.3 Ensure immediate attention is given to breakdowns of plant and equipment by liaising with Factory Manager. 3.4 Review ongoing performance of plant and report on situations, which hinder production performance or endanger the safety of employees. 3.5 Stop the use of any equipment, which would endanger the safety of employees. Ensure that all safety equipment and guarding are effective and are used by employees at all times. 3.6 Ensure that safety representatives complete regular monthly reports. Review and approve safety representative reports and ensure that appropriate action is taken delegated to you by your manager. Submit reports and actions to Factory Manager. Report and take actions on any other issue that may endanger the safety of employees. 3.7 Improve and sustain level of housekeeping achieved within the departments under your control with the effective introduction of the cleaning and organising module in the WPC program. 3.8 Perform all responsibilities as a delegated person in terms of Section 16.2 of the Health and Occupational Safety Act. 3.8 Ensure that all employees are trained and aware of the safety hazards in the jobs, which they perform. Ensure that such training specific to each job is contained in the SOP and signed off by each operator as evidence of such training being completed. 4 Financial controls and budgets 4.1 Measure performance against reports and information given to you by your manager and investigate and follow up on areas of poor performance. Implement actions to improve performance. 4.2 Develop and implement action plans to reduce costs and improve control on consumable items. 4.4 Control labour costs by controlling overtime and improving production efficiencies, to acceptable standards as defined in the budget. 4.5 Develop actions to reduce scrap, wastage and rework levels in production, thus reducing costs and improving efficiencies. 5 Improvement Management. 5.1 Co-ordinate efforts in the production departments to improve performance through a process of ongoing improvement. 5.2 Recommend and motivate new processes or ideas that will improve production performance levels. 5.3 Assist the Factory Manager in the development of action plans to improve the overall performance of the manufacturing department. 5.4 Assist the Factory Manager & (Development Director) with the introduction of new equipment and processes that will contribute to improvements in production costs. 6. Manage performance and motivation of subordinates and the department as a whole. 6.1 Conduct daily meetings to discuss topical issues and those discussed at daily production meetings. 6.2 Ensure that subordinates clearly understand their responsibilities and regularly review performance in line with job descriptions (at least bi-annually during performance review meetings with subordinates). 6.3 Monitor performance of all sub-ordinates by assessing the quality of performance through observation of performance and including time keeping and general conduct. 6.4 Implement corrective action where performance is below standard including taking appropriate action in terms of training and development. Where poor performance is due to negligence or of a disciplinary nature take appropriate disciplinary action. 6.5 Promote the involvement of employees through the effective use of mini business concepts and WPC principles in order to improve motivation of employees through better EDUCATION / COMPUTER PACKAGES: Min: Matric Ideal: Diploma in Production Management SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: At least 4 years' experience in a Supervisory position.
