Project Engineer - Midrand, South Africa (Occasional business in DRC) The Project Engineer’s primary focus will be running the tenders and project execution to construct substations, overhead lines, and grid. The role involves coordinating tasks and ensuring transmission and distribution project success. This role requires a proactive individual with a deep understanding of the industry, exceptional project management skills and a proven track record of project success. The Project Engineer will provide technical insight about deployment and implementation, putting the value proposition into practice. The Project Engineer will ensure that electrical systems are designed, installed, and tested in compliance with safety standards, electrical codes, and project specifications. The role’s responsibilities will include, but are not limited to tendering, reviewing all engineering design plans, performing complex calculations, designing and constructing electrical systems and their components, liaising with other engineers, and maintaining relationships with clients, vendors, and other stakeholders. Responsibilities: Plan, execute and manage electrical power transmission projects from conception to completion, adhering to timelines, quality standards, and budget constraints. Oversee the installation of electrical equipment and systems to ensure safety standards and project specifications are met. Design, test, develop, and install electrical transmission lines and distribution systems. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, contractors, and stakeholders, to ensure project alignment with established goals and industry regulations. Conduct feasibility studies, site assessments, and technical evaluations to determine optimal solutions and design approaches for the power system construction and installations. Work with the draughtsman in the view of creating technical drawings for substations and lines construction, using computer-aided design (AutoCAD). Review specifications and recommend engineering or manufacturing changes to achieve the power system design objectives. Provide technical expertise and guidance on power systems, equipment selection, and design optimisation to enhance project performance. Develop design specifications and functional requirements for power systems or components. Monitor project progress and costs, identify potential risks, and implement strategies to mitigate issues impacting project delivery. Provide technical direction or support to installation teams during construction, installation, testing, system commissioning, and performance monitoring. Ensure compliance with safety standards, environmental regulations, and industry best practices in power, and solar energy-related projects. Create checklists for review or inspection of completed installation projects. Run the tender process with technical expertise and guidance on power systems, solar energy systems, and equipment selection. Maintaining and updating detailed and accurate reports of electrical projects. Skills Requirements: Experience on tendering for turnkey electrical projects Experience in managing turnkey electrical projects A knowledge of French will be an advantage Excellent time management and diagnostic skills. Ability to make sound decisions under pressure. Ability to manage a team of junior engineers that are assigned to projects Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field A master's degree or additional certifications in electrical power generation, transmission, distribution and renewable energy would be advantageous. 10 years of proven experience in project management, preferably within the power transmission and distribution sector as well as solar energy projects. Strong understanding of power generation, transmission, and distribution infrastructure systems. Experience in solar projects would be advantageous. Proficiency in project management tools, such as MS Project, and experience with CAD software like AutoCAD. An ECSA Certification would be advantageous. Excellent communication skills, ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, and a proactive problem-solving attitude. Fluent in spoken and written English. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple tasks, set priorities, work independently and well in a team, and perform under pressure. Excellent computer skills
