Job Title: Proposal Engineer/Estimator

Location: Pretoria (On-Site)

Main Purpose:

Prepares work to be estimated by gathering proposals, blueprints, specifications, and related documents.
Identifies labor, material, and time requirements by studying proposals, blueprints, specifications, and related documents
Computes costs by analyzing labor, material, and time requirements

Duties and Responsibilities:

Consult with industry experts to discuss estimates and resolve issues
Identify and quantify cost factors, such as production time, raw materials, equipment, and labor expenses
Travel to job sites to gather information on materials needed, labor requirements, and other factors
Read blueprints and technical documents to prepare estimates
Use sophisticated computer software to calculate estimates
Evaluate a product’s cost-effectiveness or profitability
Recommend ways to make a product more cost-effective or profitable
Prepare estimates for clients and other business managers
Develop project plans for the duration of the project
Identify and quantify cost factors, such as production time, materials, and labor expenses
Work with sales teams to prepare estimates and bids for clients

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree would be preferred however, a highly experienced craftsperson may qualify without a bachelor’s degree. Voluntary certification can show competence and experience in the field. There are no set requirements but experience as an administrator, craftsperson, technician, or surveying assistant in the same industry may apply.
