We are looking for a Renewables Project Engineer - Midrand This role of the Project Engineer will concentrate primarily on solar energy initiatives for both the South African and global markets. The job entails coordinating efforts, ensuring the success of projects and contributing to the development of sustainable energy solutions. It demands a forward-thinking individual with an in-depth industry knowledge, superior project management abilities, and a history of successful projects. The Project Engineer will give technical advice on deployment and implementation, applying the value proposition in real scenarios. This role will involve working on meaningful projects that contribute to sustainable energy solutions. The work will cover various aspects of the solar energy field, including building, designing, installing solar panels and improving solar technology through data gathering, lab work, and field experiments. Tasks and Responsibilities: 1. Planning, executing and supervising solar energy projects from start to finish, observing timelines, quality standards, and budget limitations. 2. Working with diverse teams, including engineers, contractors, and stakeholders, to align projects with set objectives and industry regulations. 3. Carrying out feasibility studies, site assessments, and technical evaluations to identify optimal solutions and design strategies for solar energy system installations. 4. Undertaking site-specific engineering analysis or evaluation of energy efficiency. 5. Formulating plans for solar energy system development, monitoring, and assessment processes. 6. Performing engineering site audits to gather structural, electrical, and related site information for solar power system design. 7. Designing electrical single-line diagrams, panel schedules, or connection diagrams for solar electric systems using computer-aided design (AutoCAD). 8. Reviewing specifications and suggesting engineering or manufacturing amendments to reach solar design goals. 9. Bringing technical expertise and guidance on solar energy systems, equipment choice, and design optimisation to enhance project performance. 10. Creating design specifications and functional requirements for solar energy systems or components. 11. Overseeing project progress, identifying potential risks and applying mitigation strategies to handle project delivery issues. 12. Supplying technical direction or support to installation teams during set-up, testing, system commissioning, and performance monitoring. 13. Performing computer simulations of solar PV generation system performance or energy creation to maximise efficiency. 14. Complying with safety standards, environmental regulations, and industry best practices in power and solar and energy-based projects. 15. Creating checklists for the review or inspection of completed solar installation projects. Skills and Prerequisites - A Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and additional certifications in Renewable Energy would be beneficial. - A Master's degree or extra certifications in electrical power generation, transmission, distribution and renewable energy would be an advantage. - 7 to 10 years of demonstrable experience in electrical networks and feasibility studies, including exposure to solar system design. - Experience in performing energy yield assessments and financial modelling for solar and energy-related projects. - Understanding of local and international energy codes and standards. - A firm grasp of solar energy system design, photovoltaic technology, and relevant software for design and analysis. - Familiarity with licensing processes, utility interconnection prerequisites, and commissioning procedures for solar installations. - Competence in Electrical Engineering software - AutoCAD, PowerFactory, PSSE or similar. - Proficient in project management tools, such as MS Project, and experience with CAD software for solar system design. - Superior communication skills, the aptitude to cooperate with cross-functional teams and a proactive disposition towards problem resolution. - Knowledge of French is a benefit. - Ability to work in a dynamic environment, juggle multiple tasks, set priorities, work autonomously and efficiently in a team, and operate under pressure. - Outstanding computer skills. - Willingness to travel abroad.
