Research Team Manager: Horticulture - Nelspruit

Reporting directly to the Senior Manager Research, this position requires a hard-working scientist & and experienced manager to lead the Horticulture team & be responsible for the overall management of Horticulture related research on Citrus & subtropical fruits. Key Performance Areas • Initiate, coordinates & manages projects with the Senior Manager. • Manages people withing projects, & ensures optimal utilization. • Complies & manages project budgets • Ensure all projects withing the Division are properly managed & to the accepted scientist & clients standards. • Provides leadership with regards to research with the institute. • Actively source new national/international research opportunities, assist with proposal writing. • Plans & coordinates research with single or multi-disciplinary team. • Identifies & prioritize the need for resources (equipment & material) in project(s) & manages them accordingly. Requirements Requirements • PhD in Horticulture or related field. • Minimum of 10 years relevant post PhD experience in the management of research teams. • Proven research & managerial record of accomplishment in the field of Horticulture related field • Minimum of 15 peer-reviewed scientific publications • Proven experience in attracting extremelly funded projecrs. • Proven experience in human & financial management. • Proven experience in project & programme management. • Experience in networking with national & international client, stakeholders & researchers. • Excellent Interpersonal, project management, administrative & communication skills across all levels • Experience in report writing & presentations • Registration with scientific & professional body will be an added advantage. • Programme & financial management & planning skills. • NRF rating will be an added advantage. • Valid EB or C1 Drivers license.
