Summary of Role: The Development Executive will be responsible for the complete project development lifecycle from project inception to start of construction. The successful candidate will be involved in wind, solar PV and BESS projects. Activities will cover all aspects of development including environmental studies, management of met mast and solar station installations, permitting, consents and authorisations applications, engineering, landowner and other stakeholder engagement, site selection and visits,, interaction with Eskom to ensure feasible access to the national grid, various government permitting requirements and a number of private sector permissions. The Development Executive will also be part of Mainstream's bidding efforts in the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (REIPPPP) and other Private Opportunities; and will assist in bringing Preferred Bidder projects to Financial Close, as well as supporting other Mainstream teams/ departments as and when required. What you will do: Manage a number of wind, solar or Battery Energy Storage projects, referred to below as assigned projects. Assistance on other non-assigned projects may also be required from time to time. Ensure that projects are identified, developed, and executed in line with Mainstream´s corporate values, development goals, objectives and processes. Other tasks include but not limited to: Health & Safety (H&S) Follow all Mainstream health and safety (H&S) procedures, including the development and maintenance of Development Projects H&S Plans. Be fully responsible for the health and safety on each assigned project. Site Selection & Visits Apply Mainstream site selection criteria and evaluate greenfield/brownfield opportunities in line with Development standards and procedures, including management of opportunities through phase/gate process whatever the case may be. Undertake site visits for greenfields/brownfields opportunities and existing pipeline projects as and when may be required Environmental Assessment Oversee / manage external consultants appointed for assigned projects. Review and analyse specialist reports, environmental impact assessments, management plans etc. and legislation interpretation. Participate in EIA public participation processes as well as manage community engagement for assigned projects. New Business Seek new business opportunities including private, public tenders and any other potential renewable plays. Engineering Oversee/manage external consultants appointed to perform preliminary engineering studies and site design. Provide assistance to the Engineering team with development and review of preliminary engineering, geotechnical, traffic, transportation and hydrogeology studies amongst others that may be required. Provide assistance to the Energy Analysis Group (EAG) and external consultants with installations and maintenance of met masts and solar installations. Assist Geographic Information System (GIS) and Grid Engineering teams with preparing the required documentation to engage Eskom in securing grid access / compilation of Cost Estimate Letters. Layout Design Manage Geographic Information System (GIS), Energy Analysts and Engineering teams with layout design considering environmental and other permitting constraints. Project Management Management of various projects and project related activities. Preparing projects for government / private project bidding efforts, ensuring accurate documentation, and filing of documents etc. Drafting proposals for specialised services, appointment and management of specialists. Preparation and management of projects (assets) including schedule budget, project metrics, risks and issues. Regular asset reviews on projects will be undertaken to assess each assets on an on-going basis. Document and administer all project related information, as required. Permitting Manage the permitting processes for assigned projects. Oversee / manage external consultants appointed to perform town planning rezoning / SPLUMA applications and long-term lease agreements. Reporting Manage /provide feedback on due diligence reporting, site visits, asset review, project sheet reporting and project status updates. Stakeholder Engagement Arrange landowner meetings; design and issue landowner newsletters; gain familiarity with the full land agreement processes and all involved parties, including land agents, landowners, Mainstream employees, local recording offices, land title agents and insurers, etc. Assist in securing land agreements as required for project site, access, grid line etc. Communication Interdepartmental liaison and liaison with various competent authorities. Identify and communicate on a timely basis all project barriers and risks, together with the strategies and approaches to overcome those barriers and risks. Budgets Manage project budgets and invoicing to ensure that assigned projects are delivered on time, on-schedule and within budget to agreed quality. Resource Management Mentor and manage Junior Development Executives and Development Interns as assigned. Document Control & Management Manage document labelling in line with document naming convention. Management and upload of assigned project documents onto SharePoint. Provide inputs regarding suggestions for system improvements. Other Carrying out other related tasks as and when required. Assist the Development Team in EIA public participation processes as well as community engagements. Participation in Mainstream public and community outreach programmes. Be involved in relevant industry bodies' committees and initiatives. What Mainstream requires: EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Educational background in Science, Environmental, Planning Related Disciplines, Engineering (note however that the role does not include detailed engineering design work), Project Management or Renewable Energy. Minimum 4-5 years' experience in renewable power development is required. Wind and solar PV experience preferred. Valid Driver's license required. Project management experience is required, and a project management qualification would be an advantage. Candidates should: Have excellent written, oral communications and presentation skills and be comfortable presenting to management at all levels. Be able to liaise with project stakeholders particularly landowners, many of whom are Afrikaans speaking. Ability to use Microsoft software packages such as Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint, Project is essential and the ability to use specialist software packages e.g. GIS and SharePoint experience is an advantage.
