Sasol Vacancies: Senior Mechanical Engineer - South Africa
Provide technical mechanical engineering direction and specification during project execution and plant optimisation / support activities Required outputs: Technical Management — Provide technical expertise and direction during capital projects/plant optimisation projects and during plant support. This involves: – Specification of technical requirements through translation of owner requirements and knowledge of Sasol specifications. Comply with the OHS Act – Interface management between Operations personnel, Engineering and Project Teams with regard to maintenance and operability requirements – Technical review of enquiry documents and bids – Perform lead Mechanical Engineering role in project risk management studies and reviews – Perform lead Mechanical Engineering role in project VIP’s (Value Improvement Practices) – Review and comment on design and engineering work of Engineering Contractors and fabricators – Ensure technical continuity through to commissioning of the project – Translate lessons learned for inclusion into specifications General – Familiar with Mechanical Engineering activities required during project execution – Develop/coach/mentor younger engineers – Develop and imbed principle of Business excellence – Computer literate (MS Office) – Familiar with engineering software (Codecalc, Compress, HTFS, PV Elite etc.) – Serve the Sasolburg / Secunda complex but travel to EC offices etc. as required Job Requirements Qualifications and expertise required – B. Engineering Mechanical or higher qualification – Professional Engineer (wish) Specific experience required – Minimum of 2 -10 Years experience in the Petrochemical / chemical industry covering areas such as pressure vessel design, piping design and rotating equipment – Experience in Fabrication and/or construction could have been part of the above – Knowledge of Codes and Standards used in petrochemical / chemical Industries (ASME, ASTM, API, BS, NACE etc.) – Knowledge of the OHS Act and it’s implications (especially w.r.t pressurised systems) – Knowledge of material selection, welding, heat treatment, inspection, and its integration into piping and pressure vessel design. – Exposure to Mechanical engineering activities during Construction and Commissioning of projects – Experience in Life Cycle Costing principles Personal Attributes Competencies (skills, knowledge and characteristics) – Dynamic and committed – Strong initiative – Team player with proven track record – Capable of functioning in a multinational / multicultural environment – Ability to work under stress and take technical decisions – Ability to work independently – Good communication skills – Innovative and creative – Negotiation skills Apply Online
